Seems that noone ever talks about this speaker much and there are very few clips out there, at least few that I can find. They are touted as higher wattage Greenback copies. Is this pretty accurate? I want to try mixing something new with one of the v30's in my 212 to get a bit more depth and smoothness, just a different sound I'm craving.

So what's the verdict on the 65's? I've heard good things about a warehouse g12-65 copy/v30 mix.
My other ideas are Mesa Black Shadow or a higher watt h30 copy. (Warehouse, scumback, etc)

To me the 65 sounds like a darker greenie...

Without actually listening to them for yourself, your best bet is to think of them like a slightly smoother high wattage GB.

The more you guys post about these makes me want some, Im due for a speaker change and these sound perfect or a M75/h75 mix to bad either one will be 700$

The heritage G12-65's are really pricey. I have a pair of WGS ET-65's and have had a Weber 1265. The only 'greenback' type speakers I have played were WGS Green Berets. The Et-65's are smoother, not as crunchy or as woody as the Green Berets. The highs of the ET-65's are rolled off due to the large dust cap, very nice for brighter amps. I am running mine with a Marshall 2553.

The one thing that surprised me when I first got the ET-65's in, was that they didn't sound as different as I was expecting to the CL80's that were in the cab before. The CL80's were almost as smooth, but had more top end and more bottom end.

Thanks guys.

So Blackba, do you think I might get similar results with the 65 or the Black Shadow? If that's the case, I might just try a Warehouse 65 since they're inexpensive. Also, you said the 65's have less of that "woody" sound that the regular Greenbacks have. Is it there at all in the 65?

I have a quad in the RT classifieds if anyone is interested.

The bottom end is more plentiful & solid, and the top more rounded than a Greenback, but the signature mids are very, very close to the GB signature.

Please keep in mind that the Green Berets are the only Greenback type speaker I played. I don't really hear the woody sound much in the ET-65's. The Green Berets just have this classic familiar tone, but were not as versatile as the ET-65's.

As far as the MC90 versus the ET-65, both should mix well, but the ET-65's have a lower sensitivity than V30's, so the V30 will dominate. I would give the ET-65 a shot, unless you find a used MC90 for a good price.

I'm mixing ET-65's with Veteran 30's in a 4x12. It was recommended that I run the 65's on top, Vet30's on the bottom, to overcome the difference in sensitivity. It does seem to work to keep from burying the '65's.

hey,
Webers version of the g12 65 is really good. I have it in a cab with a V30 and I was doing some scrutinizing. It has similar characteristics but then a slight high end roll off and a cheweyer feel with a high gain signal. I like it a lot

These are exactly the characteristics I'm looking for: Chewy and a bit rounder on the top end. Would a CL80 or Black ShadowMC90 give me this result? Or should I try two ET-65's?

When I had my Weber 1265, I did try it in a 212 with a CL80. I did not like the mix. The 1265 didn't seem to add anything and just didn't sound as good as two CL80's. So I probably wouldn't mix an MC90 with a 1265 or ET-65.

I've got a early 80's Marshall JCM 800 4x12 slant cabinet in excellent condition with the original Celestion G12-65's in it if anyone's interested PM me.

I prefer buying them when people DON'T know they have 65s in them.

From what I'm gathering the ET-65 will be overpowered by the V30 in a mix, and the ET-65 and CL80 or MC90 is not a good mix...
So either MC90+V30 or two MC90's or two ET-65's, right?

I would still consider the ET-65 and Vintage 30 mix. Its pretty common to mix a WGS Veteran 30 with an ET-65. I think the Vintage 30/ET-65 will match up well.
