Whenever I've tried these speakers with anything, they usually blow. I did have an older quad from 89 that sounded decent but not like G12 65s, my personal fave w/marshalls. Found an 800 cab at GC for 299, decent shape so I grabbed it. It has the vented 75s, and they date to 85...fired up the 2204 and with both cabs hooked up(one with 65s and this new one w/75s) the 800 cab with 75s sounded even sweeter than the 65s! Surprised the hell out of me. I read about the vented 75s being special, now I know. I dont know why Celestion ever changed this speaker to what it is now, sounds nothing like the versions from 90 on. And its not break in....its a totally different speaker in the mids, very sweet like a greenback or a 65. If you have a Marshall and find an early-mid 80s cab with the vented 75s grab it.

I've been trying t find one with the original speakers for my early 800 now for a year. You got a great deal at GC. Every time I look in the GC uses site they have them marked up around $500 because they label them vintage.

you always get the best deals at GC!!!

Very interesting. It seems that the earlier ones had the mesh venting? I've still got one of a pair that dates to '85 if I remember right. I wasn't real impressed with them in the old Peavey cab I had, but I'm saving the one for a 1x12 I plan to build. Hopefully to pair with an EVH LBX head one day...

Ha ha yeah I work nights so I stalk that damn site often....another good time to look is on a monday, after the weekend they'll post things that they took on trade. This one was last Monday, early afternoon. Same thing with the 82 JCM 2204, 849 and great shape..also on a Monday. They do have a few 800 cabs like this, mine has the faded to tan cloth from 85. I think there's two but they're 4-500. Honestly though, if I knew those vented 75s were there I think its worth it. This cab is better sounding than either 65 cab I've had. If Marshall intended these as a replacement for the G12 65 I would understand. Its too bad they didn't keep making these....

I remembered hearing the vented ones were "the ones" from your thread. Good score.

I sold the quad of vented 75's out of my 85 1960 cab a few years ago. Sounded like wet cardboard. Could not unload quick enough. Now they are a thing? Figures.

I have a set in a cab that still came with the 65's 260w logo on the back. They date from July of 1984, sometimes I love them sometimes I hate them but they don't sound like current 75's by any means. They are cool and I could be persuaded to let it go for a smaller cab for sure, if anyone is interested....

Interesting. I had two cabs. One with the 65's and one with the 75's. They are mid 80's. I've been saying for a long time that I prefer the 75's over the 65's with my 2204 and everyone tells me I'm crazy. Whether that are the vented ones or not, I don't know. But they sound great to me.

Yeah, these are very close if not identical to an 83 800 cab I had with 65s. I've had 3 sets of 65s, all great but slightly different. The set I have now are bass cone 65s, 3101s and most aren't a fan for some reason but I think they sound great for guitar, with more low end than lead cone 65s. I've also had a 79 1960 with Marshall labeled 65s. All killer, and these 75s are right there with all of the 65s I've had. In fact, after A/Bing both cabs the 75s have a touch more mids, if you can believe that.

Ha ha I don't know if they're a thing, but this cab sounds nice. When celestion advertises the 75 as a high powered Greenback, they mean this old 75...really sounds similar to me.

My buddy used to call the G12T-75's "Whitebacks" and recommended them. This was in the late 90's, so he was probably referring to the vented versions, which makes more sense now. The more modern G12T-75's I have tried have been okay, but never really wowed me.

I think like a V30 some amps work with these speakers better, like a JCM or similar Marshall circuit. Yngwie always used or favored 75s, I'd bet they were the early versions. These are so far removed from the recent production 75s....I just returned a BX cab to GC that had 75s in there, sounded bland to me. Way different.

Good score at GC. I got one as well for $299 a couple months ago!!! My speakers are dated April of '86. I'm normally not a fan of 75s, but I think there's something about the white label/older ones that have a much better sound than current production ones.

I have always liked Marshal 4x12's with G12T75's and paired with 2203/2204's. They can seem a tad bright to my ears in the room by myself but add bass and drums it sits perfect in the mix...to my ears anyway

Nice! Mine is similar, faded cloth as well. I had been looking for a bargain 800 cab for a while, just hoped it had 65s or 75s, not 70s. There was a local Craigslist 800 cab for 250, from 84 with the vented 75s but it was gone in a day.
