I know, it's awesome. Helps keep my teenage years from being a very hazy memory.

Seen him numerous times during that phase...

Ian Paice...can make his guitarists shine cause they don't have to think. he's the man.

I miss those drummers from the 70's who hit real hard but could make it swing. The 80's and 90's killed swinging the feel in hard rock. The 90's/00's was filled with heavy drummers trying to emulate hip hop beats but it's always so stiff, heavily syncopated with the kick and snare. No-one seems to be able to work the hats and rides anymore. Loosen up on the snare. No what I'm sayin'....fool! nuff of this jibber jabber!

One of my absolute favorite guitarists from my favorite time frame. HOWEVER, this is the Gary Moore from 1984 that I am talking about. This whole "Emerald Aisles" concert and the "We Want Moore" album just floored me.

Too bad this Gary is gone. RIP

The Mork from Ork outfit rules too. You know you love it!

nanu nanu...gary OWNED!

i watched a bunch of his youtube stuff last week...the 80s era was pinnacle moore. he played so raw and emotionally...no fluff, all heart and soul. killer rock tone!

I actually prefer Gary now more than then. Of course I didnt live through that cheese fest. His playing is so much more mature and tasty now (IMO).

Shazbut! Emerald Aisles is a classic in shredding that rocks. I could never get into vai, satriani (except for Surfing, but I was 17  ). etc. Too fluid, too perfect...too boring. Gary Moore had that on fire tone. You could tell when it was a strat, you could tell when it was a Paul. It was mean. I loved it. His downpicking speed was ridiculous. I would actually feel tension as the hairs would go up when he would do those, now typical, super fast muted runs on that strat. F'n awesome! Plus he wrote some kickin' hard rock songs and sang pretty well. Something none of the other instrumentalists did well at all.

A great combo they were and some great live footage. Unfortunately they are both often forgotten about and under rated. I have been a fan of Gary since his 2nd album when it came out in the mid 70's and have been a fan of deep purple since I first saw them in 69.

I have to say though I do miss Gary's harder stuff and the original lineup of DP. Blackmoore's guitar work to me is just part of the band even though Morse is a very good guitarist in his own right.

Yes, his newer stuff is much better to listen to.......... when you're riding in an elevator. :D

Hey Curt, that Emerald Aisles concert was a huge inspiration for me!! I actually found a copy of it when i was like 7 years old, which was the year i started playing guitar. It still makes the hairs on my neck stand on end when i watch it, just like it did way back when i first saw it when i was young!

I wish Gary still played like this!! All the older Gary Moore stuff just kills.. I remember the first time i heard that shredding on Dirty Fingers and the intro to End Of The World... wow

Also one thing i forgot to mention is, when you listen to Gary's playing back then... You can blatantly see where both John Norum and John Sykes both got a ton of licks and inspiration from!!!
