Incredible player(RIP)....love the SLO tone in this video!

Great stuff, he is sorely missed. One of my all-time hero's........ RIP Gary
He could say more with 1 note than most could with 3000
Thats a killer vid, thanks ;)

Yeah, I totally miss listening to his vibrato. He had such an original sound going that was so identifiable.

RIP Gary.

So sweet man. So much soul and feel along with the shred. Love it.

He was one of my favorites ever. When I was in High School I was the odd one out that preferred listening to Gary Moore while everyone else was into EVH in 79-83' Dang! I'm getting old...

here is a little tribute I did:

R.I.P.

Yeah, makes you wonder why in the world he went back to using his Marshalls. Money maybe ?

I saw him about 2 years back when he was using JVM's and was truly unimpressed by his tone sadly enough.

I preferred his tone with the SLO's too. They were much more responsive. The M tone sounded way to buzzy to my ear...

Nice man
I did the same thing in high school :D

I've been watching the Montreux DVD set a lot lately. What's funny is that I generally HATE the sound of Strats for hard rock tones, but Gary running that stock-looking strat through those SLOs is just ripping. I was SORELY tempted to get a SLO after I first saw that vid.

My favorite year on the DVD is 1997. So much mellowness there, and yet fire and expression. I've loved Gary's stuff since I first picked-up the Corridors of Power tape cassette in the early 80s. His intro to The End of the World really blew me away at the time. And then Victims comes-out and that solo to Shapes of Things... WOW. The guitar world is truly missing one of its bright spots without Gary in it. Hopefully he and Phil are jamming on some Lizzy at the Great Gig in the Sky...

Gary was one of the greatest guitar players in history, without a doubt! One of my biggest influences.

However, that isn't SLO tone that you're hearing... 90% of that tone is coming from an old Marshall Guvnor pedal.
He used the amps barely even broken up, we're talking like low-gain Plexi type gain levels, and would slam the living crap out of the front end with the Guvnor. On the Soldano's he was using the Crunch channels with the amp's gain set low. If i remember correctly, there was the SLO and the HR-50 in his backline and he did this with both.

Plug the Guvnor into a slightly broken up/crunchy sounding amp and you will nail that Gary Moore Live At Montreaux tone. Oh and don't forget a shit ton of plate reverb too

Hmmm,I must have had a bad Guvner than because I've never been able to get even remotely close to that tone :(

Maybe you have a newer one?
I had one of the first run of them, it sounded fantastic. I got another one a few years ago, and was very dissapointed. I could not believe it was supposed to be the same pedal. :(

Nah,it really was a Mk1..... Compressed, sagging, no dynamics to speak of.... Oh well

I'm sure this has been discussed a lot, but what's up with the reversed neck pickup? Is this the "Peter Green" mod? I dig the sound of it.

I think how well the Guvner works really depends on the amp - and I think it's safe to say the amp wasn't clean - probably breaknig up a little bit. I think going into a Marshally type amp that is stock should work pretty good. But I thought he used the Guvner with a JTM45 for Still Got the Blues and then a Tubescreamer or 2 with the Soldano - will have to do some checking.

Absolutely amazing tone and playing, doesn't get much better than that

Just sounds so so so good!

Man, I wish I could make a Les Paul talk like that. They fight me too much to get on that zone with one. A Stratocaster however and I'm there.

Didn't even notice until you pointed it out.
