Hey guys, I just recently acquired a Herbert Mk II, and I'm blown away! This is the tone I've been looking for! I sold my old Dual Recto and my JVM-410H, and I'm just keeping my Mesa Mark V as a back up. Before I bought Herbert, I had read that some people have issues with it cutting through the mix? Those people are crazy! It absolutely crushes the band mix, and is way more present than my Mesa's and more musical than the JVM. Thank you Peter for making my dream amp!

Your GAS is only cured when you have acquired the entire Diezel range

Now which should I get to run stereo... a Hagen or a VH4?

VH4 is my favorite but I can't say I like it better than the Hagen because I don't have one.
Or you could buy my Herbert and run then together

hey spirit7

I'll never give up my 20thA-X

I'm curious too... I've been looking at the 20thA Bogners for a while. You ever run the two stereo spirit7?

Congrats on Herbert..Yep, simply an AWESOME amp!!

Have you tried the Herbie/20th XTC thing Mo?

I haven't and I am now very interested as well.

Honestly, I purchased the Lehle S-Go-S to run my 20thA-X in tandem with my VH4. But I ended up wanting something a bit more edgy, loose and playful on the Diezel side. So I went with the Hagen. I'm pretty blown away with the sonic landscape I can achieve with the Hagen playing in stereo with the 20thA-X. It's pretty nuts. That being said, the Hagen plays JUST fine on its own (as does the X). I love the VH4 as well - very much - but it doesn't suffer fools whatsoever, and at times, I just want an easy amp to play. I preferred the VH4 to the Herbert. And I prefer the Hagen to the VH4. But ultimately?? And Papa knows this - I'm aiming to get the heavy hitters of the Diezel line up in my session space - Einstein 100, VH4, Herbert, Hagen. Just have 'em and play 'em.

Wow, that is an exceptionally difficult question to answer!

The Herbert Channel 2+, gain at 2 o clock with high treble and presence is my favourite metal tone ever. For me it's THE perfect tone for heavy music, bar none: surgically tight (in the Diezel fashion), but with just the right amount of squishiness and warmth to give it character. The clean channel is also amongst the best I've played on a high gain amp, and channel 3 is beyond 99% of other amps for lead work.

The 20thA is a different beast entirely. Although the Herbert is far from a cold amp, the Bogner is SUCH a warm, comfy amp to play. It oozes vintage vibe, and I've found it impossible to dial in a bad tone on it. The clean channel sounds like a Fender (helped I'd imagine by the fact that I have the 6L6 version). The plexi mode is off the charts good. I like to keep the red channel on "Loose" excursion settings to get that late 80s/early 90s Marshally snarl, but you can dial it in so it's tight enough for modern metal (though it doesn't excel at that at the same level as the Herbert).

In short, I couldn't live without either. The Herbert is a modern powerhouse amp that doesn't sacrifice warmth and character to get there. The XTC is a saggy, snarling, vintage-vibed amp that can sound pissed off when it wants to. Both are exceptionally versatile. Both are indispensable for me.

I'd been considering a Diezel Herbert II, D-Moll or Hagen, did you play any of these to compare to Herbert? Wonder how different each sound. Onviously D-Moll is too new to have tried one...but going off tones you'd heard or were referred to. Thanks

Not enough time for the impact of the D-Moll to be known yet.

Herbert is a tried and trusted amp. But mega powerful too - 6 powertubes dude - that's a lot of wattage man!! Herbert's got some diehard fans around the globe. Considered the heavy hitter of the Diezel family. VH4 is the GrandDaddy of the Diezels, and also has a very devout following. Both slay. I own a Hagen - it's a looser amp, it's got a real nice tone to it. Hard to compare to the Herbert as I only played the Herbert for a short while a few years ago and then ended up getting a VH4. Since then, I ended up having 2 x VH4 and 1 x VH4S - all of which have been sold (although I still have the VH4S at my disposal till its buyer returns to the country), and I have the Hagen. I'm tempted to try the Herbert again....it's been a while. But I'm also confident owning the mono VH4 will be my future purchase out of the two. Hagen stays though :D
