So, like the title says, against my better judgement, I feel strangely drawn to a double neck...

Obvious ones are Gibson and Epiphone... but I have never picked one up, though I do enjoy my SG.

I see an older Peavey local to me, but dude has it listed at 1700 and I just cant stomach that price on a Peavey.

Came across an OLP MM1 612 for im guessing a reasonable price, again I dont think I have ever picked up a OLP.

Who has had one and what were your thoughs on owning one, and what are some big redflags I should stay away from.

I've also never owned a 12 string, and have heard many people compare them to owning a pontoon boat with the two happiest days of ownership being the day you bring it home and the day someone buys it from you.

Also, @VonBonfire what would the recommended leg and foot ware be for a double neck.

Normally I reach straight for something from the Carlos ™️ by Carlos Santana collection. However in this instance it seems like a double neck calls for something bold in a two tone so let me humbly suggest these eye catching dress shoes by Carrucci.

I used to have a danelectro baritone and standard doubleneck, currently have the epi g1275. I don't really have any red flags but do have some lessons learned. I only played acoustic 12 string before the epi. To manage neck tension the 12 string neck uses 8s and I was pulling notes sharp because I'm not used to playing such light strings. Locking tuners would be great to make string changes easier but three sets of new tuners would be pricey... In terms of pontoons, I've never owned a boat but I don't regret having a double, it's fun when I play it. I'd say an epi is all you need or similar quality level, likely not going to be your fave guitar so I wouldnt break the bank with a Gibson or similar. If the dano had been a 12/6 I probably would've kept it. It was a fine guitar.
