ok, poll time :D

how many people here are OCD about gear looking the same, matching name brands, no imperfections, mint use etc?

how many here would rather have the function over the look?

how many really dont care, and grab whatever you want as long as it does its job?

i have to say im 90% 10% mix, with cabinets i dont care for matching or not with my heads, but with guitars they have to stay spotless and prestine and im completely OCD about it all matching/looking good.

In one of my bands, I've been using a Snakeskin Splawn Quickrod, on a Red Bogner cabinet with Basketweave grill, This saturday, I'll be using a Marshall 1960BHW cab with Blackbacks instead. As long as it sounds good, I don't care, but I DO like matching stuff, it's just not working out that way at the moment.

I do like things to match up reasonably well if possible, but I don't care about matching brands at all. Mainly I just like the colors to match between my amp head and cab to some degree.

I guess I fall in the middle, I think meticulously matching everything looks a little neurotic but at the same time I got one of my Orange 2x12's retolexed in black because it looked hideous with my Black and Creme Egnater.

I really don't care if anything matches, but most of my stuff is black anyway.

I bet that looked pretty bad. :) That would be distracting for me.

Never cared about matching stuff, I used to take the name plates off of stuff anyways..

Not into the matchy matchy thing, unless it sounds best :D

What ever sounds and plays best goes.

In that order. If it looks good its a bonus.

+1 Anything that has a nameplate that can be remvoved gets removed. Or covered with gaff. Im not into brand status. Also, Im not big on advertising.

My gear:

Titan (Black) > Randall XXL Cab (Green)
Mesa DR > VHT cab

fuck it if it sounds good thats ALL that matters.

i really don't care if it matches or clashes.. as long as it works. the tolex color won't make it sound better. well it MIGHT on TGP.

There are going to be the typical "Who cares! As long as it sounds good!" responses. But I wonder if these are also the type of people who wear pyjama pants in public because they're comfortable or drive a certain gas guzzling beater car because functionally it works fine, so...who cares!

For me it doesn't so much have to do with matching as it does uniform placement. Black is best, I'm not into red, white, green, purple or animal skin amps and cabs. Sorry, not my style.
So basic black it just fine. After all we're talking about electronics and speakers here, not Ikea furniture.

i definitely care to a point. lookin good is half of it. im not going to trip over a mismatched company or whatever, but im not exactly looking to get up there with a orange cab, blue anniversary marshall head and a green guitar.

Could be, or could be they realize that you can't see what color the gear is when listening to a recording done with the gear?

That being said, I think white Marshall stacks look cool

Well.... my cheap jackson DK2 POS I dont care how much battlescars it gets.

My custom Liberatore or my Herbert well.... THEY MUST STAY MINT. I had a mint JSX that I sold for a good price, my cabs too... still looking for selling ma Vader 4x12...it's mint.

Yeah I pay attention at my stuff I guess, but not the cheap guitars lol

Depends on availability. I might pay extra 100 bucks to match tolex but I'm not gonna not buy an amp cause i think it doesn't fit the rest of my gear. That's insane IMO.

As far as overall damage and shit goes. I really don't care. I had a 85 LP Custom that had burns and huge dents all over the place and I loved it to bits. If anything damaged/ripped tolex/guitars/pedals are cooler to me.
