He was clearly making fun of G3 after someone asked him why he was never on that bill. He said, he likes to play songs and likes to hear players who play songs. I felt like saying that the last time i was at G3 that i heard plenty of songs. He said if he was going to do something like that it would be be with guys like Slash and Zakk. I don't know, can someone tell me what band George was in that comes close to Ozzy or GNR? It can't be Dokken since George basically said he hated every minute in Dokken and he also said he thought the 80's was the worst period of time for music. He also didn't hide the fact that he hates Don. I have always loved his playing but i sensed a lot of bitterness from the guy.

George and Don hate each other. If you buy the re-released Dokken Video that was put on DVD, there is an added interview with Don and Mick at the end of the DVD and Don pretty much says that he hated George from day one. He said that the guy is weird , has social issues and that he put up with him because he thought George was a guitar genius.
When I met George for the first time. he insulted a girl I was with and made her cry, was stand offish with his fans and pretty much blew off people asking for autographs. Don, Mick and Jeff were cool as hell and it was easy to tell who the problem was within the band.
I wrote off his behavior because I though maybe he was having a tough time comming back with the band given there history. Then I met him 3 more times and it was clear to me that he has issues IMHO.

I also love the fact that he is another guy who downplays the 80's although it gave him a career and some fame. The guy talks in circles. He was talking shit about dressing the part in the 80's and yet he dressed like every other idiot when he made the comeback album in the 90's.

Everyone acts like a dick sometimes, IMO. But usually when you have a bunch of people that don't know each other (there have been other threads about Lynch being kind of a dick in the past) saying the same thing there's bound to be some truth to it. It'd be cool to see him playing up close though.

Okay... I got a different impressions of George Lynch last night. Here are my observations:

#1 even though he was having an off night playing wise and amplification wise (something was wrong with his clean module)... he still made the best of it, took it in stride, and still had fun. Dudes, that's a biggie... when I'm having an off night... it isn't until like THREE DAYS LATER that I calm down. He was fine throughout.

#2 Zakk and him are friends. He humors him sometimes to the tune of wasting money on studio time when Zakk comes in to hang because he says Zakk has a big heart.

#3 He wouldn't have minded being asked to do G3 in the past. He just sees that he obviously not at the top of the list for candidates. He prefers to do vocal based things than instrumental based things anyway.

#4 Dude took FANS from the audience to jam with him, without even verifying if they could play or not. "Does anyone here know the drum and bass parts for Mr. Scary? Help me out here. Man the drums and bass." Even though the 2 guy that volunteered did really know the parts, he still guided them through, as mostly let them do what they wanted. He also thanked them graciously afterwards twice each.

#5 Sometimes his playing is ON and sometimes it is off. His playing on the 2nd backing track that he jammed on was KILLER! I loved it and am glad I got it on video. Now hopefully the sound came out okay because the PA mix was TOO LOUD and not corrected until half way thru. For the most part there were inspired segments in every tune that he played. Not the whole tune but, say 40% to 60% of em. But, let's face it... how many of US could play lead guitar for over an hour and keep it all sound fresh and awesome? I know I can't... 5-7 minutes sure but, after that...

#6 He made a point to get my name and said it a couple of times during our conversation and did the same with everyone that I was able to overhear. He gave everybody time of day to ask a question or two, take pics,or whatever, mostly the Sam Ash people were the ones moving people along. So maybe he's changed or something but, I went home with a he's a regular joe kind of vibe.

#7 He said that there's much better players out there but, he has is a distinctive sort of style and the ability to write a tune or two. That's what everybody should focus on because that's what got him anything he has (paraphrased that a bit but, that's what he said just in a much shorter way).

I took a couple of pics and video'd 95% of the night but, it's all in my video cam and cell phone. I've not connected either to a computer before so I have to break out the software and find the time to make stuff work. Probably this weekend.

Gear used was:

Lynchbox with Brahma and Mr. Scary (only modules that were used).

Boss DD-3 (I think)
Budda Budwah (I think)
MXR Phase 90 (script lettering)

Sounds awesome....looks like you got to see happy-George......maybe he's mellowing in his old age. He had his 6 year old grandson play violin on a track on his upcoming solo album.

george was cool when i met him at the orlando sam ash clinic, i had to leave early but i got to talk to him before he played and he signed a pic for me.
the dudes at samash didnt tune his guitar very good and they also screwed up his pitch on the backtrck player. he seemed frustraited but he kept his cool.
his tone was lacking that night, his amp didnt seem like it had much sustain and he seemed to fight the amp all night, george had to really work when he was playing, normally he sounds better, i wished he would leave randall, i had a lynch box on order and cancelled my order after hearing lynch on his randall.
lynch is still one of my all time favorite players and im a big fan, the other guys at that clinic all kinda felt the samew way i did that night but it wasnt georges fault, i blame it on the sam ass kids that didnt know what they were doing.

I've read that plenty, but I don't know if I'd call it public knowledge. Same thing for his rudeness during the mid 90s era Dokken.

I met him in '91 and although he had 6 women waiting for him (yea that's right - 6 women) he was cool and signed autographs. I met him around '97 and he may have been put off, but he was very quiet. The few times I've seen him or met him since 2000 he's seemed happy to have anyone there to see him and gratefull for any attention anyone gave him and he stayed around long enough to sign everything.

His self deprcating humor is one of the things I've always liked about him. Whether he is talking about his hair, his playing, his music, or his 4 wives.
