Getting a pretty decent brown tone out of a Fargen Mini Plex

I think I may need to look around for some better sounding EL34 tubes. They really come in to play when you crank an amp to 10 with the EQ full and bass off.
Not exact, but you can tell Eddie went for power tube distortion in his old tone. There isn't alot of preamp gain here. Gets real ratty and nasty sounding, you need some really good EL34's to pull it off.

I played with a band Friday cranked up and holy heck...sounds much better getting the speaker working as well. Can't do it at home.

Think I'm on the search for some better sounding EL34 tubes. These are JJ's, not bad, but I think it could do better.

Winged C will get you more mids. Too expensive anymore though. A little more upper mids and you are there.

Damn, you are making me want to hunt down some Winged C tubes.
It's not that I'm after the VH tone, but power tube distortion is really awesome to play with...and rolling back on the guitar's volumes feels so nice.

This is why I dig my JCM800. Has GE6550. Boost it with a pedal but still get low gain and clean tones.

I was reading up on them here, they sound good and fairly cheap. The Tube Store is local to me (about 20 mins away) I show up there about once a year and waste all kinds of money.
