Getting a Soldano Hot Rod... Selling my Mesa Mk III?

Im trying to decide if i should buy a Soldano Hot Rod 50...

I already have a modded Marshall (Golub lead mod, will never sell this one) and its the best rhythm tone i ever heard. And i really like the Mk. III for the lead tone, but i had a Soldano Avenger (sold) and it was a great amp...

What do you think i should do?

NEVER sell the Mark III. I just got one after waiting 6 years and the wait was well worth it (although I wish I had it earlier). It is by far the best amp I've ever played through. Everything I expected and more, it'll never leave me. But if it's not for you then of course move on, but me personally it's perfect.

I just noticed someone had a hot rod for sale fairly cheap but it wasn't a plus

bad thing about most soldanos is that the fx loop sucks. If you aren't using fx in the loop, I prefer the lead tone of a soldano over a regular mark III, personally. But the clean is going to be better on the III also.

Also is the "plus" much better than the regular HR?

Plus also has a clean channel. For a grand I'd buy a VHT 50CL.

I do love the Mk III, but 2 amps is enough for me at the moment and i wont sell the Marshall. So the Mesa stays or i sell it and buy the HR.

If you are going to get a Soldano, I would get an SLO. Otherwise I would just keep the mark III and modded Marshall.

Here's and Idea, get a govrnor pedal and use it with the MKIII

Here's and Idea, get a govrnor pedal and use it with the MKIII

+1 or a Wilson sparkling blue, its heavily based on a Guv'nor and true bypass. I am a fan of the Guv'nor, should have never have sold mine.

Absolutely. The cleans on the Hot Rod amps are NOT good. It's really more of a Crunch/Lead platform across the 2 channels.

I was in the same situation. Sold my HR50 and keep'd my MK III much more versitle amp and has a better OD lead type tone IMO. I also have a Soldano G.T.O. pedal that I will NEVER sell. If you have an amp with a good clean tone the GTO will just KILL on it. I have a Diezel Einstein as my main rig and use the MK III (combo) w/the GTO as a grab and go rig that sounds similar to the Einstein FWIW.

I had all three amps and I would not sell the Mark III to get the HR 50.It depends on your musical preference, but for metal the Mark III was far better and also versatile for other styles IMHO. The HR 50 is nice but lacked some character, whereas the Mark III has more balls and that raw sound. The Avenger is a completely different animal. If you liked that one, get a new Avenger and not a HR IMO.
