Been trying to dial in Randys lead tone on Diary. That particular solo always had such a great haunting sound to it imo. I hear quite a bit of delay on it, but not up front at all. I think this is close. Bought another Altec from our very own Braintheory and paired it with another I already had. Monomyth Pale Rider proto and my regular rack. On Randys ISO track the punch ends before you can really hear the trail of delay. This clip not so much.. (using a phone) LOL .. Too much delay.. not enough? Thoughts? Thanks!

Sounds killer! That is the one Randy tune I've played since HS.....my fav all time from him.
Haunting is the perfect word.

Have you tried a tape style delay? Probably what he used.
Clip sounds good, missing that nasally mid tone he had. Would have to listen again to original. Been awhile. B

Yes, he used a tape delay. I am using a pcm70. The nasal mid tone is definitely a characteristic of the Altecs. I did this at pretty low volume. Louder would have totally brought out that spike though. Wish I had a tape delay. I havent been able to confirm if he used the tape delay when he tracked or something else Max was using. Double tracking also helps to bring it closer to a tape delay sound, but I did this with a phone in the room.
