OK, so here is the setup...I have an Apogee Duet and a set of JBL monitors all hooked into a macbook pro. I also have a desktop computer under a corner desk with a set of klipsh 5.1 speakers and a subwoofer under the desk, on top of that subwoofer I have a windows laptop (my work pc) and there is also a UPS under there. I have (had) a router and a cable modem on a printer table next to the monitor also. I have no issues with the left side monitor, just the right side. There is a constant hiss coming from it (almost like an open mic or electrical interference).

Steps I have taken to figure out the hiss

1. tried 3 separate cables - still hisses (tried instrument cables and xlr cables too....)
2. tried to move the cable out from behind everything (thought maybe all the power cables were the cause so I moved it in from of all my computer stuff)) - still hisses
3. Rerouted the entire cable modem and router so there is nothing electronic directly next to the monitor - still hisses
4. Plugged directly into wall vice surge protector - still hisses
5 swapped out monitor with other one and the new one now hisses and the original one doesnt hiss in new ones position

6. ok so I moved the speakers next to each other and it seems the both hiss... just one is VERY slightly and the other is way more pronounced...is it something I am not setting right in the duet?? I remove the cables and they are both completely silent?? You guys that run studio monitors...do they hiss when you dont have music going? DO you leave them on all the time or do you power them off whenever they arent in use??? Its driving me mildly INSANE!!! ARRGGGHHHH!!!! LOLOL

Have u plugged the cable coming to the other monitor into the hissing one?

Have you looked to see if there's a snake hiding behind your speaker?

Yeah I have swapped the cables and the hiss follows the cable...so then I swapped it out 3 times....then tried removing any electrical interference...lol...you have seen my desk James...not an easy thing to do!! LOLOLOL

sounds like a temporal vortex...;) Actually, sounds like it may be that output on the duet:(

Yeah...thats what I am guessing also...unless I have a huge bundle of power cables in the wall I cant see...LOL...(I dont....its a load bearing wall...LOL, actually grabbed a stud finder to check for cabling in the wall...) Figure I have some crazy thing selected...or a hot mic from the laptop...something...

If it is the Duet the people at Apogee are great, if you call over there ask for Jay and tell him we're friends.

I have the same problem with my mac, and two different interfaces. I just think it is the nature of macs to have all that hiss when using fire wire or USB for audio interfaces. I have this problem, and it annoys the hell out of me.
