recently got the option to do a cover band gig....never been my thing before

but now that I'm seeing there's a little bit of $ to be made and that makes me think "hey that's just extra money to put right back into gear!" haha naive I know..

anyway, my big issue is I've never done the cover band gig thing, and my cover song repetoire isn't exactly what it should be.

so, I pose the question to you, my rig talk brothers-
what songs do you consider required knowledge for cover band gigging?

Well that entirely depends on what your Target crowd is going to be!

just your average bar crowd here in Disgusta
radio rock / classic rock

Eagles
Tom Petty
Thin Lizzy
AC/DC
Bryan Adams

...basically anything three-chord/simple rock. Also depends on the strength of your singer(s).

yeah, I'm trying to figure out where I can get a list of songs that are popular and like I said above sort of "expected"

are those fake books worth a look? I don't know much about them but I know they have a ton of those songs in them.

If you want girls to come, just listen to modern rock FM and that one song you hear ten times is actually 5 bands being played twice every 3 hours

Google search for top songs 70/80/90s. Should be able to find something like a billboard top 100 for every year. It's a great starting place when picking material .

Play 2112 and Hemispheres by RUSH (the complete albums). This should get the ladies drinking & dancing !!

If you really want to pull in the tail, just form a King Diamond tribute band.

Do a Jethro Tull cover band. That is...a band that plays top 40 in the style of Jethro Tull

Check the top 100 of the most heard rock radio station and you got it.

Most 40 bands that have a website have their set list posted up for would be clients-steal it and go to town.
