Getting ready to buy a Kemper....have a question or two.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the non powered rack version.

First off....I mainly want this for recording purposes....but I may use it live also.

For Gigs I would like to send the pre/cab/mic'd profile to FOH and send the PREAMP profile to the FX return of my tube head/cab so that I can hear and feel a "normal" amp when playing.
Thats possible, right? I get the preamp profile only to my amp/cab and the FOH gets the full kemper profile?

Is it true that I can create a PREAMP profile of my amps preamp and then if I were to plug in the kemper Main Outputs or the Monitor Output of the KPA into the effects return jack of my amp head that I would get the same sound as I normally get with my real amp?

So then all the available preamp profiles that come with the unit or that are available online would be the equivalent of running that amps preamp into my tube amps power section and cab?

I hope the answers are all YES so that I can order this thing tomorrow!

With current profiles you can simply disable the cab driver on the monitor out and go to your power amp while the main outs will still be the full profile. This will remove the cab based on an formula Kemper came up with that is supposedly based on a V30 cab.

In a few weeks Kemper will release firmware 3.0 that allows the combination of direct profiles and full profiles to be merged creating perfect separation of cabinet from the rest of the chain. Note with their described procedure the power amp and speaker relationship will be included in the direct part of the profile as Kemper's objective is to have a solid state power amp react as a tube amp. One could by theory do the same process but instead of using a direct box use the effects loop out and have just the preamp profile and merge it with a full profile done on the same setup and you would have exactly what you are asking for.

Yup.

I have the cab turned off for the "Monitor Out" and connect my power amp there. Then XLR Main Out to FOH with the cab sim on. Sounds great and sound guys seem to love it.

I heard that users are happier with the quality of "full" profiles than direct ones / out of the FX Loop.
But I guess I'd have to hear some soundsamples first.

Yeah, you loose the power amp color and speaker/power amp interaction by profiling the loop out. You would need to run the Kemper into the loop return of the amp to get a true sound this way. The Direct Amp profiles are taken after the power amp via a direct box so the power amp color and impedance interaction is in the direct part of the profile so it works great trough a solid state amp and guitar cabinet.

Agreed^ Those preamp profiles never worked for me. I do like a full profile with cab off into a 4x12, full cab sims going to PA. That rocks
