Getting rid of gear past expiration

I've got too much gear clutter. I need to blow a bunch of stuff out that is essentially non-vintage, pedestrian junk... things that I never really bothered to flip when getting my current stuff due to lack of resale.... but now I'm just thinking about blowing it all out so it'll stop taking up space and making me feel guilty for having so much junk.

Stuff like:
  • Cheap, non-collectible pedals
  • Old digital multi-fx past their prime.
  • Rack gear that no one wants and probably resells for <$100.

If I list this on reverb it'll probably sit forever as I'll try to price it at the edge of its value. I'm not doing Craiglist because, Craigslist.

So, I'm guessing it is just load it all up and take it to Guitar Center and take what pittance they'll give me... Will they even buy stuff like old Digitech GSPxx rack units from the 90s?
Or just eBay it all with $1 starting bids and whatever it goes for it goes for...

Anyone have a similar situation, what was your strategy? Stuff that is basically just old stuff you've carried around since you were a noob has critical mass and you just want to blow out for some of its value or be labeled a hoarder by friends and family?

I will buy it all for $100 :)

JK what do you have? I might be looking for a couple of pedals.

Throw up a cheap FS post first - keep in mind GC will usually pay you half of what the average ebay price is, so even if you're unloading stuff on the cheap you'll come out ahead.

Also in a similar situation and to make matters worse I live in an apartment with a wife who feels I need to seriously start purging  So being at max capacity I must get rid of stuff before I can bring more home lol.

What I have been doing is donating stuff to my local rehearsal/recording studio that I practice at weekly. It feels kind of good to purge and I still get to see some of my old gear actually in use by others... and I have a little room for new stuff! Good luck!

Post it here first. Some of us like cheap junk. What doesn't sell throw on Ebay. You'd be surprised, Ebay is great for worthless shit.I just made $300 for my kid selling Legos on Ebay.

Cool idea! Yeah, spousal harmony is part of my equation too. ;)

Donate it to the local Goodwill charity or whatever you have nearby. Get a donation tax document. The money saved from a tax write-off can be better than a sale sometimes. Plus it's just the nice thing to do. You get the gear in places where it may not be seen otherwise and may get a kid into music.

which digitech GSP ?

i'm partial to the 2101's myself and always have an eye out.

I got rid of stuff like that by listing way below average going price on Ebay. Worked pretty well actually, once people started bidding it seemed like some of them just would did not want to be overbid, I got much nicer deal than if I had brought it to Guitar Center.

The only thing for me though is that I get lazy after the auction finishes as it seems like so much effort for little money. What I did was I took loads of pictures from every angle, packed everything, measured box dimensions and weight before listing on Ebay. Once stuff sold, it was pretty easy just to print the Fedex/UPS label from Ebay and drop at a shipping location.

Good luck.

-use the word VINTAGE, RARE & BOUTIQUE when listing it on eBay, or better yet on TGP!!

Check the gear on eBay using completed listings (sold only) and see if anyone recently bought any of it, and for how much. If anything did sell, take some good pictures and start the auction at 20% under the last selling price. Make sure the auction ends on a weekend. You'll get as much as it's worth that way. You'd be surprised! I was able to move gear that was filling up my drawers that I thought was worthless. Even the small amounts added up to something reasonable once it was all gone!
