I wanna get started servicing and modding my own amps, but where do I begin.

What material should I get - both videos and books.

How about Lee Jackson's videos, is they the price worthy?

I have set a goal for myself, and that is to learn this!

I would check out Kevin O Connor's 'The Ultimate Tone' series of books, they have plenty of useful information that you can study before diving into servicing/modding.

I wouldn't bother with Lee Jackson's DVDs, they really don't explain anything at all. They show you where to solder the parts and everything for his mod, but that is it. I don't think you will learn much at all from it, i didn't.

Also like Paul suggested, check out Metroamp forum. There's lots of useful info on there from some well respected techs like Randall Aiken, Larry Grohman, Dave Friedman, Mark Cameron etc.

Buy a Ceriatone kit unassembled and put the board together yourself and the chassis. Grab a bag of resistors/caps and start messing around.

A good book to start with is "How to Service Your Own Tube Amp", by Tom Mitchell. Get it off Amazon.

Sorry for the spam here... but I have a complete set of Kevin O Connor's TUT series, and they are some of the most informative books out there. Here is my link in the classifieds:

Thanks guys!

I'm gonna buy the "How to Service Your Own Tube Amp" first, to see what the hell is going on under the hood.

Thereafter I'm thinking about buying a 18 watt Ceriatone kit, as it don't cost that much.

About the Kevin O Connor's 'The Ultimate Tone' series, they cost alot, so they will have to come join in later. Thanks for the offer though!

And I have already joined the MetroAmp forum, thanks!

Or do any of you recommend a other, maybe more suitable and cheaper amp for a first time builder?
