I know Explorers aren't for everyone, neither are Floyds, much less together, but I like both and am intrigued by the new Gibson Tremolo "Limited Edition" that they have put out. It's got decent specs, mahogany body, ebony fretboard, OFR, 22 frets, 496R Hot Ceramic and 500T Super Ceramic humbuckers, etc. Their original asking price is $1,389 which isn't as bad as I'd expect from Gibson but Musicians Friend is having a 15% off sale today which would take it down to about $1,180 if they'll give me the discount on a Gibson product. What do you think?

I REALLY wish they would make this without a trem. My dream guitar right there. Snow White, NO pickguard, switch under the bridge instead of on the bottom horn.

There was a thread about this guitar here on RT awhile back. Someone ended up buying one, and really liked it IIRC. I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

The 15% does work on this guitar as well as the V with the Floyd for the same price.

Epiphone currently makes an 84 Explorer reissue that comes with EMG 81/85

My initial review still stands, the Floyd isn't one of the better ones, but the guitar's playabilty and fit/finish are better than my other Explorer.

I still haven't got mine to hold tune, but also lucky if i've played it 4 or 5 times since i've got it. So haven't changed strings yet, i also live in the Desert, so no humidity for the wood.

Mine not holding tune is most likely string stretch in combo with the wood drying. Just pulled it out for shits and grins, and it's consistently about an 1/8 to a 1/4 low on all strings.

Wish i'd spent more time with it and could tell you i've got the tuning to hold, but been putting in lots of hours at work and just not playing much.

I'm glad i've got the guitar, and with the 15% off and 30 day return, if you're an Explorer guy i'd think it would be worth trying.

It's tempting. The 15% goes until Tuesday so I'm going to mull it over. If I had money to burn I'd have already ordered.

Yeah, make sure your strings are well stretched and that the locking nut pads are down tight (not too tight).

Yeah, I've seen them. I'm worried about the quality of them though. Well, I'm worried about the quality of the Epi and the Gibson, really

For the Hetfield fan boys.

How about 15% off the Snakebyte?

I've thought about one of these, and throwing the new pups in there.

If I had 1200 bucks if buy that thing today. Maybe swap put the pups depending on how they sound. Do they offer it in black??

Funny you posted this because I was just looking at these yesterday...

the fact it's a floating floyd kind of bothers me.. if it was a flushmounted one I would have bought one by now

I read the quality of the routing and the paint is not that great also on those models unfortunately

Holy thread ressurection! There's a used one on the GC website. I got one long time ago and still have it. Yeah, overall the quality is slightly lacking but I will say that the thing sounds really good through my amp and stays in tune quite well. I'm an Explorer fan and there aren't a whole lot of other options for those seeking an Explorer with Floyd. For the price it was worth it.
