Tried my first Gibson today with the mini etune and honestly I thought it was pretty fuckin' cool. It was on a SG standard so wasn't sure about the extra weight on the headstock but damn if it didn't work very well. I seriously would not say no to something like this on a guitar, especially with how quick it is. Anyone else tried it? What did you think? More shit to break and go wrong or cool technology?

I tried a Gibson Futura with the etune, seemed cool but I don't change tunings enough to justify one.

I've never tried one becasue it just strikes me as a gimmick. I'd be curious to see how well it worked but doubt that I would ever want to own one...

I don't do alternates either but it was so quick for fine tune adjustments it was killer just for staying in tune. Being a long time Gibson player I can appreciate that the company that makes a guitari that can be tough to keep in tune came up with it. When the strings are real fresh or getting old this would be very useful. Especially in a recording scenario.

I installed one on my SG standard (it's completely non-destructive, can be easily returned to original). It's the Tronical unit, the same that Gibson is using. I like it for the quick fine tuning between songs when necessary. Sometimes it takes a little longer than I'd like but it's pretty damn slick overall.

When I tried doing one strum across all strings it seemed to take a while but going string to string it was very fast. So is Tronical another source for it. Does Gibson just license the tech?

Yep, the units on the Min-Etune models are actually branded Tronical...same exact unit.

i would be all for this if the technology was as accurate as a strobe tuner...

More tech to make people lazier/more stupid. Maybe useful for live playing though. My kid has been playing for over 5 years now and still can't tune his guitar without a tuner. I told him I was gonna steal hit tuner until he learned to tune by ear like a man!

I always thought it looked a little silly but after trying it, it was pretty awesome. I think some naysayers haven't actually tried it and would be embarrassed at how much they dug it afterwards. My only concern was that on a SG any extra weight on the headstock could be trouble. I've been using a Snark and even though it's right there on the headstock it doesn't alleviate old or brand new strings in that your constantly tweaking to keep the guitar in tune. Turn it on, one pluck of the string and it's almost instantly in tune. I don't get the lazy talk. But I never did have to walk 3 miles, barefoot, through the snow to school either

Guess most don't play live gigs here.

Song ends, press button, 100% back in tune again to keep the set flowing smooth.
No more looking down at floor tuner, "flat, sharp, close" one string at a time.

I think this is great, not to mention changing tunings if you do that live.

This, +1000...not to mention, if you break a string it's super fast in getting you back up...you pull the string through, one wrap, then hold the button down while it winds and stretches the string, then tunes it...
