I've been using Gibson Les Paul Signature strings for about five years, but lately I've been wanting something tighter. I picked up a set of the Vintage Reissue, 11's(the others are 9-46), I figured that they would sound similar since they are both nickel wound. They don't. After messing around with my EQ for an hour, I put some Les Pauls back on. Boom, there's my tone again.

Does anyone know the difference between these strings? or is it just the size difference?

The only way to meaningfully compare them would be to use the same gauge...9's and 11's are going to sound different even when using the same string type. The size is definitely an issue...the string type may or may not be but you won't know until you try the same gauge.

pure nickel strings come in two varieties

string tension depends on the type of core.

round core has a slinkier feel with less tension

hex core feels a bit stiffer.

pyramid strings makes both versions

i prefer round core myself.

just be sure to kink the string before you cut em or the string will go dead!
