I wanted to start a thread about positive things that we can do as musicians to 'give back' or 'pay it forward' in the coming year.

I am not looking for glorification just to share what I do/plan to do/or have done to inspire others to do the same.

Starting in January I am volunteering with the horn section in the local middle school band. I want to inspire the next generation to be musicians. I teach and have taught VERY cheap lessons for guitarists (younger generation) that are hungry to learn and work hard. Usually $10/hour which I use for picks/strings, etc. Also I set a goal for next year to volunteer in a military tribute horn section to play in support of our veterans and active duty military, as I was unable to serve and want to do something positive for them. I also will be tech'ing and /or running sound for the new Church I go to, which I have not done in a while because I parted ways with a previous one.

What are you going to do?

It doesn't matter if your donating things of value or your time. It makes a difference.

Or even what ideas do you have that others can do to make a difference through music for others? Whether it be underprivileged children, or putting a smile on the face of the elderly.

Thoughts?

I will stop smoking crack and sexually harassing women at work.

Jk of course.

Sexual harassment is perfectly fine as long as you are sharing the gift of music with the... Yeah...
