Can't seem to find any used VHT 2/50/2 power amps for sale anywhere. What's the average price on these? Need to figure out if they're out of my budget or not.

Rich,
We have a Randall RT2/50/2 in the shop. Just gone over by Bruce..$600 shipped.

Thanks guys...looks like those are out of my range right now. I need to keep costs down on an amp as much as possible.

The cheapest good tube preamps I know of are the peaveys.

+10000!!

I have been using a Peavey Classic 60/60 for a while now and it is one killer poweramp. All 6L6, so its fits the Boogie vibe in my rig in tone and feel.

If you can find one.. grab a Peavey Classic 120/120. The headroom is fantastic and it sounds great at all volumes!

Aren't the peaveys 3 spaces though?? Not really interested in the 50/50 because of the EL84s...

Yeah the Classic 60/60 and 120/120 are 3 spaces.

Are you planning on using a 4 space rack with a Poweramp/Axe FX?

If so.. id go 6 space rack, and that way there will be a space left for the poweramp to breathe a bit inside the rack. If i was using a tube poweramp and Axe FX, i wouldnt want them sitting directly ontop of each other for overheating reasons!

Yeah I have a 4 space but can get a 6. I used to have a 60/60 and remember it being pretty good. I'd be putting a furman in with it too so I could always have the furman in the middle of the case if need be...it'd be open on both sides as well when in use obviously.

After thinking this over for a couple of days and talking to a few people, I'm going to try the Carvin DCM150 for now. It's 1 space, affordable and should give me enough power at 75 watts stereo into my marshall 4x12. Now to find one for sale.

Thanks for the info Jason...that's 3 people now that prefer the mosvalve.

I don't think the 150 would be enough either. The DCM600 has plenty though

If you are considering a carvin DCM150, you might was well consider a used Crown D-75.

Those Mosvalve power amps are supposed to be pretty nice....

Just grabbed a mosvalve off ebay to try. How would I run it with a 16 ohm marshall 412? I looked at the back of it and it doesn't really say the ohms on it?

I saw the manual but it only mentions a 4 ohm input? I notice something about 8 ohms as well. So to drive a 16 ohm 412, I'd have to run it in stereo at 8 ohms?

If you have a regular 1960 cab, you should be able to run it @ 4 ohms with one of the inputs. Idk if the amp puts out the most power when run in 4 ohms mono or 2x8 stereo..? The normal Marshall 1960 has the 4/16 ohms mono, and 2x8 ohms stereo
