There's 2; one Russian and 1 Chinese. WTF? What's the back story with the Chinese version? New Sensor probably pumps up the Russian version, but the Chinese get shit done. What's your take on the 2? I'd like to try them but they're expensive. I can get NOS shit for what they sell these for..

They're spendy tubes but sound great. I have both Russian and Chinese versions and they're both great...

Having said that, I don't think they are a great value as a good tube from another manufacturer will also sound good...

I find the Genalez tubes to last a long time and sound very full and crisp....If I could afford them, I'd buy more...

Ive tried the Chinese golden lion and I liked it too... I went back to just a regular Chinese 12ax7 because the difference was not so great that I could justify the cost. Maybe if I were using them in a hi fi audio application I could appreciate them more... but I'm just blasting through a loud distorted amp so the regular Chinese did the trick. I like the long plate JJ's as well.

like many guys on this forum, i have a lot of tubes including many NOS.
after experiencing various brands from various era, my top 2 picks are Gold Lion and Psvane.

never tried made in china Gold Lion.
but russian Gold Lion 12AX7s with gold feet produce very warm, rich, beautiful sound like lovely russian girls.

it's not tight, bright, stiff or aggressive...
for that kind of sound, Psvane is better.

I have one of those Gold Lion Russian tubes.

I have a stash of various NOS and CP tubes. From making direct comparisons visually, and from what I've researched, The Gold Lion Russian is the same tube as a Sovtek LPS and Mullard re-issue. Their construction, plates, getter, etc...are all identical. The only difference is the Gold Lion has gold pins.

Hadn't heard of Psvane. Did some Googling, appears to another name for the Shughuang factory? I've never seen tubes labeled "Psvane" though, the newer Chinese tubes just say "Made in China" or no imprint at all (unless they're sold through a vendor like Ruby, etc.).

This makes sense. I read that pretty much all current production tubes come from either 3 factories in Russia, or 1 in China. So a lot of these differently named tubes are actually the same, but are renamed for the vendor/dealer. I've also read that "if the the tubes look identical, that almost always means it's the same tube, just named differently."

Tried both, didn't really hear a difference.
The russian ones are a long plate with gold pins, the Chinese are standard pins with short plate.
Really not worth $45 imo.

Thanks for the replys. If the one is just a relabeled LPS, that's a shame. The public must be dumb if all they have to do is slap a big name on it and charge big bux..

I'm still interested in the China version. From what I can tell, the Tube Store's Preferred series is the China version and is the best according to their chart. The price is fair if they back up their claim. Thoughts?

It's a different company. Psvane used to be OEM'd by Shuguang, now they have their own factory.

-almost identicle with the standard pin. GLexcept for the halo, the GOLD PINS have more differences.

Chinese tubes are pretty consistent.
I'm assuming the preferred series tubes are the equivalent to Ruby 12ax7C5 HG+ 12ax7's.

They get good reviews, so I'm sure they're worth a shot.

-some cp chinese tube manufacturer's are using some of the old methods & materials that are no longer used in the USA per the EPA, HAZMAT, OSHA... China has little to zero natural resources left except for one in which they have in abundance.... Worker's. and theyre expandable..

-NEWS FLASH-
-China has found a way to make there workers -EXPAND- the giant workers do the work of 10 normal workers!!! Back to you Jim... More at 11-

Put that tube up against any NoS Mullard or Tesla. You will hear a big difference . All new tubes are on there own level, I liked the Groove Tube Mullard copy but since then nothing really stands out.

-the old NOS tubes were defiantly better made, but some varities of these new chinese tubes distort,... They sound bad-ass to me. This is coming from a long time preacher of NOS TUBES with a fairly large stash
