Good acoustic for fingerstyle?

I'm a huge fan of artists such as Andy Mckee, Antoine Dufour etc, I think they're incredible musicians and I've learned a few songs by them, two by Andy Mckee and one by Antoine Dufour.

Problem is, I'm playing a £60 acoustic by Encore that my friend gave me for my birthday that's beaten up and plays like shit, sounds it too.

My 18th birthday is coming up so I thought I'd invest in a good acoustic guitar.

My friend has a Faith which is fantastic, only cost something like £600. I guess that would be my budget, I'd rather pay less.

Suggestsions?

Cheers in advance.

For finger style, you typically want a smaller bodied (grand concert, grand auditorium, 000(0), or even parlor style) with a more focused tone. Large bodied guitars such as jumbos and dreadnaughts tend to have a spread tone with too much low end for delicate fingerstyle passages.

look into Larrivees, I have an OM03. I also have a Blueridge br143 and it's a GREAT GREAT guitar.

Yeah I think my friend has a Faith Parlour, but I thought Parlour was just a model name or something. I'm more used to guitar necks, though I'm sure I can adjust. I'd need one that could put up with changing tunings alot of the time, every fingerstyle tune seems to have a different tuning.

Id go for the body styles rupe suggested. Something like a OOO with a cutaway. The next thing to look for is "solid woods" for the top. Id stay away from cedar tops. Look for sitka spruce or better yet adirondack spuce (red spruce) tops. Back and side material should be solid as well but lamenants can be used. Most guys like east indian rosewood for the B&S. I like mahogony best. Seems warmer to me.

So if you can find a guitar with those features and it plays good AND youre happy with the price, you should be looking at a nice guitar reguardless of the brand.

Try to score a used Martin 000 Mahogany, satin finish. Amazing tone for the money. Wide nut, perfect for fingerstyle.

Wow, such great advice.

These Martin acoustics look great, but are a little pricey, I'll keep an eye out for a used one though.

Does anyone know much about Babicz guitars? I found one for £499 but the body looks a bit big and I can't seem to find other Babicz guitars for sale anywhere.

Solid woods which is good. Ive never heard a guitar with a mahogony top before though. Next step is to play one

When it comes to acoustics and fingers only playing, I just can't go anywhere except gut (nylon) string classical (Spanish) guitars. Made in Spain, and with classical width fingerboards; standard concert dimensions.

Just my 2 cents,
V.
