Hello everyone I'm a complete noob and really don't know much about amp heads or boxes  . I'm starting a new gothic rock / metal band with a hint of industrial metal and I have yet to buy my first amp head and box. We are going to play music in style of Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, HIM, The 69 Eyes, Charon, Deathstars, Katatonia etc...

I'm willing to pay up to 800€ (1070$) for both box and amp head. If I get work, maybe up to 1000€. Of course I'm looking for a more doomy and dark sounding distortion / cleans. Power = 100W
Any suggestions are welcome since I really don't know much about amp head and boxes. Oh and btw, I'm a lead player.

Start simple: Peavey 5150/6505. There's a whole lot of tones in this thing.

Peavey is definitely too much expensive for me at the moment. Will check Ironheart...

Checked some Ironheart videos, sounds great, cleans are nice too, can sound very dark with a bit of tweaking. Any more suggestions? You guys know for any affordable boxes?

You can get a used 6505 for like $600 these days.

Will be hard to find a good amp for less, price wise I would suggest a Randall RD-50.

Tone wise, for Gothic. I would say Mesa Recto all day.

I'm from Europe so It's pretty hard to find 6505 that cheap :/ Can't find much info on Randall RD-50... Mesa Recto, I wish :D

I love my suhr riot pedal, I've found it very verdatile for many styles. Take a look at youtube, there's a gain making a review of it. I hope it helps

Wow, this pedal sounds amazing! Guys any suggestion is great so bring it on :D It's great discovering new stuff.

Dual Rectifier no contest. Oh yeah 69 Eyes is just a shit Type O rip off.

Well I don't agree with you. I see some similarities with Type O Negative but I wouldn't say they are a rip off. They have different songs and they have many great songs. I met guys from The 69 Eyes after concert and they are very nice and down to earth people - true musicians from Finland. Btw, every one of them liked my Type O T-shirt, so yes, they are definitely fans of Type O.

Thanks for your suggestion but Dual Rectifier is totally out of my price range.

I don't know man, they 69 Eyes sounds like a heavier, more masculine version of HIM. I hear very little TON in their sound.

To the OP, I think Laney is going to be your best choice especially due to your locale. Last time I saw Sisters of Mercy they were using Engl Powerball's

A used Engl Powerball head and cab would be a solid way to go for goth rock/metal.

Well The 69 Eyes started as glam rock band later turned into goth. In the middle of their career their songs were more keyboard oriented, nowadays they are more guitar oriented. Their latest album X is amazing, to me personally, I know what you did last summer is the best song of latest album, great mix of keyboards and guitars, very catchy.

I have to agree, of all recomendations Laney Ironheart probably sounds the best to me. What kind of Box would I need for that Laney head?

P.S: I would definitely go for a used Engl Powerball If I would be able to find it, my friend has it and it kicks @ss.

Mikko from HIM Laney setup sounds pretty dam good live IMO
I know he uses a Fuzz pedal but Live it almost sounds like he is using the fuzz through one Laney and the Laney dirt in the other.

I would also look into the Marshall Valvestate 8100 Head that Tommy Victor from Prong use's

I think of colder sounding tones, with some effects....Honestly: Line 6 Flextone can get many of the sounds that you described

Linde (Mikko) also uses bas wah for solos I think, it gives him a very badass sound.

I never quite trusted Line 6, mostly because many people said that it sounds like sh... Also, I'm looking for an amp head for gigs and recording. About Marshall Valvestate 8100, Is it powerful enough for bigger gigs?

They are 100 watts The guitar players that I played that had one didn't have trouble matching my volume with it.
