Regular old Greenbacks (G12M) will do the trick. They handle hard rock and even modern metal quite well as long as you keep the power down. If you're using 50 watt amps, you'll be fine.

I use Greenbacks with my Diezel VH4 and Ceriatone Chupacabra and they're awesome. I also have a 4x12 with G12-65's that rocks. But the 65's need to be turned up super loud to sound good. But by good, I mean incredibly fanfuckingtastic. :)

My rec. would be normal G12Ms.

Here's a clip of 'em with my Chupa:

What did you mean about keeping the power down? How do you do that if you have a 100 watt head? Do you mean just keep your volume lower at gigs?
My Mesa is 100 watts and I have a Quickrod on the way, also 100 watts.

What is the Chupa amp? Have never heard of it before your post....

Greenbacks are 25 watt speakers. Which means they will break up easily if pushed hard. Which means keep the volume down if you're running a 100 watt amp.

I don't know what else to tell you about the Chupa. It is what it is. Watch the video. Check out Ceriatone's site for info on it.

Yea, Greenbacks are probably a bad, bad idea with a 100 watt head, so I will pull them and wait for my G12-65s to arrive or keep the Retro30/RT65 in there.
Would hate to get to a gig and not be able to turn up enough to be heard, for fear of blowing speakers! LOL

Not sure how stuck you are on Celestions but considering you play 50w amps I wouldn't NOT consider the Scumback Paper Voice Coils. The vintage thing they got going on is awesome!

Greenbacks!

I am thinking the same thing!

Bogner 212 - V30s (I find V30s sound best turned up loud, but I prefer to have one cab with V30s because my Bogner and PWE are amazing with V30s)
Stone Age 212 - Creamback/Lynchback
Splawn 412 - Greenbacks, Green Berets or EVH Greenbacks.

Either way, the Greenbacks or whichever must be able to handle hard rock without flubbing out.

Thanks guys! Maybe I can find some used Scumback M75 25 watters. I used Scumbacks before and preferred Celestions but am willing to give another go.

Celestion emailed me and said be careful with Greenbacks - G12M and don't go heavier than classic hard rock like ACDC.

FourT6and2, what do you mean when you say G12M? Regular Greenbacks or Heritage Greenbacks??? One other note is the EVH Greenbacks which are relabeled Heritage Greenbacks! Nice clip man, are they the regular and cheaper G12Ms?

Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!! :)

Ignore what Celestion said. Greenbacks (G12M) have been used for decades for all sorts of musical styles. They are synonymous with rock. And not just AC/DC rock. Look at the Framus Cobra cab. Guess what? Greenbacks. And that's a modern metal high-gain amp similar to the SLO or Dual Rectifier.

Adam Jones' Marshall 4x12 has Greenbacks in it.

The clip I posted is with regular reissue (Chinese) G12M Greenback 25 watt speakers. With 50 watt amps, you'll be fine with a quad of 25 watt speakers. The general rule of thumb is your speaker load should be twice what the amp puts out.

I understand what you mean about speakers being twice the amp wattage. Well, I have been using my Dual Rectifier at 100 watts and my 412 has two 25 watt G12M Greenbacks and two 50 watt Lynchbacks. Should I be concerned? I am considering replacing the 25 watt GBs ASAP.

By the way. I know you like the G12-65s a lot. If so, check out Lynchbacks, I think they are even better! :)

This sounds killer. If you love this and want thicker? If so, give the Lynchbacks a go!!!

as somebody mentioned, the century vintage sounds great (after broken in)
it's like a cleaner, less aggressive version of the v30, with a bit more low and high end clarity instead of a ton of dirty midrange
you could mix it with greenbacks and still have a pretty light cab

wouldn't you consider other brands? webers are killer and you can choose whatever spec you want
I love celestions, but I'd pick a weber silver bell or a custom legacy over a celestion any day
their v30 and fane clones are hard to beat

Which is weber's V30 clone? I am getting 2 more legacy's .. like that speaker a lot with marshall based amps.

I have tried Webers and Scumbacks and ended up back on Celestions.
