Hey guys,

I want to put together a small board for my JCM 2000 and Pink Taco. I want to run everything in front. What's a good delay that excels in front of the amp? I'm thinking about the Carbon Copy or maybe the new Boss Waza delay.

Thanks.
Dave

IMHO, no delay sounds good in front of a dirty amp. Just the nature of how delay and distortion works.

The Catalinbread Belle Epoch, which replicates the old Echoplex (and the really cool preamp within) sounds GREAT in front of an amp. You just have to be very careful how you set the mix. Totally cops the early EVH and EJ sounds.

I am really liking the new Earthquaker Devices Avalanche Run. I run it in front of my XTCs. With assignable functions for an expression pedal its very easy to run it with clean and dirty tones. Great pedal.

I never liked delay in front of the amp nor found any delay that works great in front based on my ears. That is just my opinion. On that note the Strymon El Capistan sounds pretty good in front of the amp, but not as good as in the loop.

Unless you buy an original "real deal" tape echoplex (or Roland Space echo etc.) , its never going to sound great IMO. There is something magical about those old things. The upkeep and maintenance gets tiresome though unless you have a lot of free time on your hands.
