Good Eminence combo for 4x12?

Looking at Emimnence speakers to make up a new cab.

I’m looking to do an X pattern. Get two to cover the lows and two for the highs.

Seems like Swamp Thangs and Texas heats seem to be a good combo.

Apparently the Swamp Thangs are brighter (which seems counter intuitive to me.) and the Texas Heats fill out the high end better.

Im mainly looking at Eminence since I get really good pricing on them, so I’d like to stick with that particular brand.

Any suggestions?

What kind of material?
Texas Heats are ok for E rock, but not dropZ Brootz
I like legends on everything

Doom.

I use baritone guitars in B standard and fuzz. Very loud generally.

Amps are my Weber S100 clone and Laney AOR. Lots of bass frequency and I like a relaxed high end.

Oh THeats might work then
They’re aren’t tight on the lows but that might be what is needed

V12 Legends for strong mids, relaxed highs and tight lows.
Swamp Thangs moderate mids, higher highs and colossal lows.

Cool. Thanks.

Interesting. Thanks!

I have a Splawn bottom 4x12 cab that has Governors and Man o Wars in an X pattern that work out well with an older QR that I pair it with. It seemed to take a while to get them broken in but they sound really good for what I do which is 80's melodic metal/rock and neo classical.

If you had generalize, how would you describe their tonal quality’s?

Like high, mids and lows on a scale of 1-10?

What kind of head are you using? I know this makes a world of difference. I've tried EVH stealth head, and an old Crate Blue Voodoo and everything was just different! I just found rig-talk today...and i was dealing with this exact scenario recently so i thought i'd respond...

SO...I may be a weird one...but here is my story....
I have ENGL powerball 2 and i was mix matching speakers for a 4x12 and 2x12 for it.
I picked up 2 swamp things, 2 texas heats, and 2 man o war.
The swamp things carried the massive tight low end that this german metal amp had to offer but didn't have the sparkle.
I then put them into the 4x12 with the 2 texas heats. The mid range was better...but still missing that top end sparkle.
Took out the texas heats and put in the two Man O War speakers...and holy cow it was like staring into a bright light after waking up at 3 am....but it did sound good after some tweaking.

Strangely in the end i settled on using the two swamp things, one texas heat, and one man-o-war. Leaving one Texas heat and one man-o-war in the 2x12. I did like that set up on the 4x12!

On my 2x12 the Texas Heat and Man o war sounded great! It was balanced tone, and i was happy with it.
However i began using my 2x12 a lot and i missed the thunderous low end the swamp thing would bring. So I'm running in my final configuration as follows..

4x12
TOP: Swamp thing/Texas Heat
BOTTOM: Texas Heat/Man O War
2x12
Swamp thing/Man O War

I like both cabs..the 4x12 sounds great..the 2x12 also sounds great and still has that really beefy low end..i can't decide which cab i like better and i guess that's the way it should be.

(PS. Used 4x12 for studio work and it was fun playing with mic placement for different Tone/frequency coloration! You could look it up on spotify the band was "Wings over Society" their album was "Harbor Knights". And even though the ENGL is a heavier amp tone we were able to get a Tone fitting the style.)

This amp i was setting up for my High Gain setup, I was using it primarily to play rock/punk/metal and thicker cleans. These cabs would darken my amp i use for lighter gain applications (DV mark marigold) losing some top end sparkle...though i'd imagine that the man-O-wars would alone would work for it. Good thing though i do not use these two cabs for that amp so it's a non-issue.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate the input. The ManoWars sounds like they might fit the bill with some darker Speakers.

I’m running a Laney AOR and also my Weber S100 clone. Both are extremely bass heavy. I use lots of Fuzz, so I do not want anything too fizzy. I hate V30s because of that.

Check my speaker shootout..I have the Texas Heats..Manowars and Legends..as well as some Stephens Tru sonic and the ol T75s.

I have Manowars and Heats in my 4x12 now..and like it...I don't tune below drop C though..don't have any issue with tightness from any of them.
I also ran into the V30 high mid grating my ears thing..switched to all Eminence...Eminence seems to have the high end solved..even their brighter speakers are still less grating than Celestions. They leave room to crank up the presence/highs a bit without piercing your eardrums.
Manowars are kinda notchy though...they sound better to me paired up with another speaker.

The Legends to me are the do-all...they give you mid presence..crisp highs, and chunky controlled low end beef. They work really well with either my Rack set up or My Engl Fireball 100.

As always...some speakers will work better with some amps...Engls like the PBall Fball tend to be a bit darker/low mid oriented..so finding a speaker that adds the bit of upper definition is key.

Awesome! Watching now.

Love the Governors. The have a nice cutting midrange that is not to spikey. I would go Governor/Manowar. I had Texas heats, kind of sounded like it had a blanket over it.

I have a pair of very bass heavy speakers. And from your demo, I think the manowars will work best to compliment the other two in a cab. They seem the most clear and articulate, which will work best with the bass centered speakers.

This is a pretty good description of Legend V12s. I find them to be pretty balanced overall. Low end stays pretty tight, but isn't thin. The high end is there, and cuts, without being V30 spikey. The midrange punches you in the stomach like crazy. I love them, and have them in both of my 412s and my 212, though they are paired up with 2 Mesa V30s in one of my 412s.

Those will probably be my next purchase. I’m going to start with two ManoWars and grab another two speakers once I have the first cab built.
