good material to use to raise direct mount pickups

i have heard rubber, foam, and even window insolation. What have you guys used to raise or make direct mount pickups adjustable.
 
Rubber surgical tubing.
Pretty cheap and can be folded over and over.
Or a piece of sponge.
 
yeah i would rather use something that i can adjust. tube or something like that would work i suppose
 
I mainly use foam because it retracts and compresses, as needed. But I have been known to use the occassional cut-up beer "coozy" (can cooler) in a moment of need! :lol: :LOL:
 
I have one that I cut some pickup mounting springs into small lengths, and I use them under the pickup so that it is adjustable. My Ibanez had foam on the stock pups.
 
I used a mouse pad from a computer when I put in the direct mount pickups in my Gretsch, worked great.
