Good Mod Candidate? 1977 Superlead

I'm thinking about picking up this 1977 100w JMP Superlead locally, just wondering if it would be a good candidate for modding (thinking about APC, Naked, or Kitchen Sink), or if I should look for something else? I'd be getting it for a really solid price ($550), so it'd be nice if this one could work out!

According to a post by the previous owner: "I used to own this amp.... when I bought it, it was modded for a master volume.... then brought back to "normal", recapped and a new power transformer from Nashville Amplifier Service a few years back."

From what I can see, the PSU has been rebuilt and the bias caps aren't original, but other than that I've got no idea.

Among the best. Especially for APC/Naked. Billy's original was a 1978 SuperLead.

Awesome, thanks guys! Really cool of Dave to chime in on it as well!

Now just to decide on which mod - so far everyone's suggested the Kitchen Sink + fat/sat switches, but I'm not sure I'd use all the modes. Mainly doing fairly modern metal and alt rock; Killswitch Engage/Sylosis on one end and Paramore/Jimmy Eat World on the other, but aside from switching guitars the tone differences are more of a gain amount than anything.

Currently playing a 5150 and love the thing, but hoping to get an organic/big low end that is still very tight, and a top end that has a good amount of grind but remains smooth and not ratty like some Marshalls can get when pushed into high-gain territory.

I've been told that by that description, the Naked would be exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm definitely open to suggestions!

I'm also just up in Ventura, so driving down and trying the amps out when I drop the Plexi off is totally doable, as well.

Well both are good. Hard to say. You can also add a high end contour switch to the Kitchen sink to get it smoother like the NAked.

Thanks, that sounds like it might be right up my alley!

One more question; can your FX loop be made switchable? I think KS + fat/sat + high-counter + FX loop if switchable would be absolutely perfect.

Ahh that's too bad. I suppose I could just do an Iron Sounds or Metro loop after the fact and wire a jack in place of its bypass switch. Shouldn't be a huge deal - will be calling you in a couple weeks to discuss dropping off the Superlead!

Yeah the problem it that is not the way to do it. You want to leave the loop in and and switch the jacks. I can do it if you ask.

Well not with out great pain.
My KS Mod EFX loop is the best, Im working on getting a 77' Super Lead 100 right now for another KS MOD! most players/sellers see them as nuclear loud amps, I see them as Hairy Brown Eyes in the waiting!
