I grabbed another one of these dark Amber DK's today ( I wanted a 2 hum 24 fret), someone had one local to me with a Charvel case , plek'd from sweet water in mint condition for a great price so I decided to give it another try. I really liked the previous one I had , It just became a victim of numbers. Now I've got too many H/S/S guitars so I will be moving a couple of those shortly.
I don't like the stock pickups these come with , the Full shred is pure treble. I've recently really fallen in love with the Custom 5 again so I have one inbound for the bridge.
I'm thinking Liquifire for the neck but I'm open to suggestions, this will used used for a pretty wide range of rock. I 've never been a huge fan of the 59 or Jazz, to me those are somewhat boring and lacking character.

Same here re: Jazz and 59.
I took out the '59 neck and JB bridge on my ESP Horizon NTII and there's a Custom 5 and a Screamin' Demon in the neck now. Very cool, reasonably bright, but juicy and characterful pickup.

Other faves are the Air Norton and Pearly Gates neck.

Love the Custom 5 as well; my favorite of the Custom line. A Custom 5 and '59 combo was my go to for years playing skate punk using a '98 Les Paul DC standard.

Other Duncan's to try:
Sentient: more articulate and modern than a 59.
Omega: Holcomb model. Again, very articulate.
S-Deco neck model: Custom Shop model not currently on the site. Absolutely phenomenal (neck and bridge models). Pairs really well with a Custom 5, as it is almost like a Custom neck pickup in some ways.

I'm odd when it comes to neck pups. I like about every gibson model out there....especially 57's. I also love 85's...not sure if that's an option or not. I only use the neck position for that dark low gain les paulish sound though. In superstrats I prefer neck single coils....I have a custom 5 in my jackson with a virtual vintage in the neck. Of course it's hss though. In my root tele I have a tone nerd in the bridge and I want to go with an H90 in the neck. So my votes to try an h90.

Someone had recommended for my Charvel model 5fx the Custom 5 / Vintage Hot Stack set.

How does the Custom 5 sound?

My main guitar for years had a custom 5 bridge and a Gibson 490 in the neck that I could split…Les Paul type guitar

It worked real well for what I needed
