I'm looking to get a new pickup for my Les Paul. I keep it tuned to C# and the stock pickups aren't clear enough for my liking so I'm looking for something that can keep it clear. Its a chambered Les Paul studio. I'd much prefer to keep it passive and somewhat cheap. I've been looking at a Dimarzio Super 3 but can't find much about it. Any help welcome.

A lot of guys like the Suhr Aldridge for this...

The super 3 is a great pup, but not for mahogany. I'd check out a Dimarzio D Activator X. I'd also look at getting a JB and swapping the magnet to an A8. the Duncan Invader is also good for drop tunings.

i have used the dimarzio d activator x as mentioned in an earlier post in a dean soltero i have and it is extremely clear. i keep the guitar tuned to drop c. i have also used a dimarzio X2N and it also sounds really clear. you will wanna play with pickup height to get everything just right, but they are both really good pickups.

The duncan custom is what I use for my deep drop tunings. Its kick ass

A Super 3 is a splitable Super Distortion.

What amp and cab are you using?

What style of music?

What pickups are already in that LP?

a super 3 isn't the same as a super dist. Its eq is cut a bit. It originally came in the Fender "STRAT".

The LP would probably be a bit different due to neck type and body/neck woods, but the D-Sonic is a pretty good choice. I set up an alder/maple/rosewood, bolt-on +TOM ESP Horizon for my son, in drop C, and that combo works really well. Nice and chunky, but still well-defined.

Duncan Invader, if you want something hot. Lots of punch, and surprisingly well-balanced as opposed to some pickups that sound scooped and lose definition when tuned down.
