Just got my Mark IIC+ today.

Long story short,i had it shipped to my parent's house so i had to drove 1 hrs to go get it and on my way back my car died...called a towing...waited 25min...did a 30min towing ride...borrowed my mothers car...drove another 1hrs to get home. It was 10 when i opened the box to finaly try the amp  and the head only got an 8ohms output and two 4 ohms and my cab is 16 ohms :aww:

First, can i run my head on 8ohms thru my 16 ohms cab without causing damage??
Also i plugged the amp to see if it works and when i put the power on(stayed on stanby caus i was unsure about speaker mismatch) theres a big clicking spining loud noise that seems to come from a fan. Do you think i could just unplug that damn fan? It probably broke during shipping and scince im playing in my bedroom mostly, is it very usefull to have that fan?

All day long i was super stoked to try the amp but ill had to wait tomorrow after job. need to go sleep now

UPDATE

Looked better at it and the fan was loose, i putted something under it and it stoped making noise. Problem solved

Now i messed with the amp tonight and after 20-30min i had an absolutely crushing thick/just tight enough rythm tone.Best metal tone i ever had. Kind of a blend between modern mesa low end but with a more 80's clearer top end. With this setting the lead sounds phenomenal too.Best mix of creamy sustain/punchy cut.Overall its very organic and reactiv to my playing.Better than i tought and i havent tried it with my bb preamp yet. Seriously im asking myself how Metalica ended up with their tone...theres so many better sound in this amp!
I dont regret the price i paid for it and i can definitely say that the legendary iic+ tone is not just hype. Its a bit of a one trick pony tough...but i dont care at all.Bought it for crushing organic metal and for anything else than crushing organic metal, my egnater mod is absolutely stellar. :D With these two amp i can cover any sound i want now. I have the best of vintage and modern and i dont need more modern than that.

Agh, that sucks! :aww:

You would be "okay" running it through the 16 ohm cab. Won't sound the same though. Mesa apparently doesn't approve of 16 ohm cabs...

I would keep the fan on to be safe. If you think it needs it, you can always send it in to Mesa.

Make sure there's nothing in the fan. I had the same problem and it ended up being a packing peanut in the bottom of an amp that kept getting sucked into the fan. your OK without the fan for a short time at low levels. I turn the fan off on my MK IV when recording. Also your fine running an 8 ohm out into a 16 ohm cab.

I feel like a broken record here--the labels on the speaker outputs are MINIMUM values. 8-ohm output means 8 ohms OR MORE. You can always safely run more load, although as noted it will sound slightly different, but running less load, over time will fry your OT.

Yup, sounds like a good description of the IIC+, the best amp Mesa ever made. Yes, as said above, you always want your head to match or have a lower OHM rating than the cab. What you DON'T want to do is run 8 OHMS from your amp into a 4 OHM cab. But doesn't that amp just KILL for lead playing and tight thrash!

Ran a 16 ohm into a MK IV for 4 years with no issues, Mesa trannies are well built.

Hey Dan i just saw in your link that you played the Mark V too...how do you think it compare to the iic+? I came close to buy the V

Great thats reassuring me. Anyway ill look into my cab, i think its two 8ohms speakers in series...ill rewire them in parrallel to get 4 ohms...just to be sure.

Glad to hear everything worked out. The IIC+ has definitely earned its reputation! The reason why Metallica doesn't have the quality tone they once had is because they no longer use the IIC+. But then again-how is the James getting the tone he'd getting from his VH4 :dunno: (I'm a huge Metallica fan for the record-not trying to start anything :D)

The V is missing something that the IIC+ has. The two amps simply don't sound the same but I'd take the 1 tone that IIC+ has over the 48 tones the V has. The V is more compressed and to me sounded vanilla in comparison. I made a clip of the V which sounded a lot like IIC+ clips i made, but when you're in the room with both amps you'd know the differences are pretty clear.

Mesa doesn't make the IIC+ so OF COURSE they're going to tell everyone the V nails the IIC+, which it doesn't.

It's not really a one trick pony. A one trick at a time pony maybe. :D I got great clean and lower gain tones from mine. But for those it had to be set up very differently than you would for high gain. It is really the reason I sold it, though I loved the tone of it. Would be a bad ass studio amp if you could dial it in quickly.

Congrats on the amp they are legendary for a reason.

I'm sure if I ever find a loaded original I will snag it.

Metallica's tone blows now. Is it the fault of the Diezel's or just how they dial them in? Not sure?

But something tells me that Hetfield's desert Island amp sure as hell isn't a VH4, it's probably the IIC+ he used on the early records.

Sure but once i dialed this awsome lead tone, i didnt wanted to loose it   Anyway for most other stuff i play, my Egnater have that warm vintage/marshallesque tone that i dig so i really bought the Mark for its heavy tone and im glad i didnt bought the V as i dont care for its versatility...i just wanted the iic+ mode :D

I would chock this up to Big Mick Hughes being nearly deaf after 30 years on the road with Metallica, at EVERY show!

And yes, old school Mesa tone is pretty killer. I'm still finding new textures in my Studio Preamp.
