Nice amp, pretty loud and this one works, first off how many of you guys are using EQs or BBEs in the loop? any tips to make it sound awesome?

I like it, not as spongy as the 5153 or a marshall but not bad for 549 bucks, I have an EQ in the loop now and it comes alive, I also am boosting it with an MXR classic overdrive, the clean is nice for a high gainer too, whats thr difference between the BBE and an EQ?

can't believe you're boosting it :scared: .... the boost switch is really all you need isn't it??

as far as tips, turn gain down to around 6, put mids up to at least 5 and listen to it open up

well I cranked it today a bit and it really came alive, def doesn't need a boost when cranked, was palying in my apt last nite and it was real low, my neighbor is a 97yr old woman ughhh

My advice : swap pre and power tubes, bias it little higher than the factory 35 ma, also try channel volume high with master low and vice versa

Great playing dickola, I cranked it today and it sounds great, running it through v30s in a Marshall 212, I have an eq in the loop but I can't tell if I like it or not, might try the bbe in the loop this weekend but overall great amp, gonna crank it with a drummer and bassist tomorrow, psyched...

I used my Roland PQ50 parametric in the loop, and man that thing can vastly change the overall tone to anything you're looking for.
It doesn't change the feel of the amp but greatly changes the tones.
Parametric has a better control and change compared to graphic eq ime/imo.

The amps built in boost is excellent. One of the best I've every used.
My Fulltone Fulldrive II used as a boost worked great in that amp too. It brought in more sensitivity and gave it a bit better feel.

As I've said before, I'm not a fan of Ruby tubes in general and didn't like them in this amp.
Tung Sol 12ax7's sounded really nice, better. I never got a chance to change out the power tubes so I don't know how it would react.
But given that I don't like Ruby tubes I'd say try something else.

Congrats on finding an amp you like.

Thx for the tips c1, I've heard of guys using pqs and dickola yeah I have a bbe sonic maximizer in storage that I'm gonna try....

I forgot to mention that when I had the RD45 I did swap in a different pair of Ruby's that I have.
The one's I swapped in sounded better. Could be that they were better suited to the factory bias cause I didn't touch the bias.
Nothing vastly different, but the Ruby's I did put in had a better feel and were smoother on the top of the midrange.

Sounds great!!! The evh 50 can do those tones and more

and is 2.5 times the price

Some crazy math on that one.
$599 vs $999 is 2.5 times?
I own both and my opinion is that the 5150 iii is much better amp in every category... cleans...rock...hard rock...metal.

Slaveunit the 5153 is awesome but it was a tad outta my reach for now, hope to get one down the road and have both like yourself :)

Sounds like a good plan. It just seems like people that buy these Diavlos are in a hurry to insult or downplay the 5150 iii to make themselves feel better about spending less money.

Where are you getting that from?

It ain't cool to be insulting to people who either can't or don't want to spend any amount of more money, whether the higher cost amp is or isn't better.
If someone can get a tone they like for less money, then more power to them.

I really like the 5150 50 watt, more than the RD45, and was really considering getting one.
But after getting longer play time on it I decided my Egnater Vengeance is better suited for what I like, as it has a much better clean channel. Both amps are priced about the same, I lucked out and got my Ven for an amazing new demo low price.

I had an RD100 for about a week. Sterile city. I HAD to run an EQ in the loop just to get it to sound decent enough to gig with. The 5153 50 blew the doors of the Randall. Not even close. Maybe the lower wattage versions sound better.. but my experience wasn't the best. YMMV...

Am I missing something here? Your link shows a page where the head is $999. Are you seeing $1295?

No one is insulting anyone. I get it from reading threads in here.
