Got Rid Of Some Hiss. Found Some More.

Dfrattaroli, another thing you should let us know is where is the hiss coming from?? The speakers plugged into the M4 & RT2/50 rig? The speakers plugged into the AxeFx & DCM150 rig? Or both ??

One thing you might want to do is set the power amp volumes the same. Plug your guitar STRAIGHT into the input of your RT2/50 and set a volume, it'll be very low but don't turn it way up because the input will later be getting a line level instead of pickup level. Then do the same with the DCM150 and set the volume knobs to the same AUDIBLE volume as the AUDIBLE volume you set with the RT. Doing this will make sure both amps are giving you approximately the same 'voltage gain' from both amps.

If you didn't already realize, the RT2/50 is a very high voltage gain amplifier. This is not a big deal, but keep in mind it'll considerably amplifier your NOISE FLOOR as well, which could be what you're hearing if the hiss is coming strictly from the M4 & RT2/50 rig.

Yep. Just the cabs connected to the M4 rig. I had a company thing last night so I couldn't do any more testing. I may be able to tonight. I'm going to measure as you said and I'm going to break it down as Dave has suggested and see what I get with just the M4 rig connected to the GCX. Then I'll begin adding things back in one at a time.

Thanks a bunch guys.

Made some progress.

I did what you said Dave. I ran the Guitar into Guitar In -> Guitar Out -> Loop 1 In -> Loop 1 Send -> M4 In

Nothing else in the path and I get no noise. So that means either the BB Preamp, Digitech Whammy or Axe was creating the noise. I doubt it's the Axe because I no for sure at one point I removed it from the path before. My money says it's the Whammy.

the whammy adds a crap load of noise!

thats why i keep mine in a separate loop on my soundsculpture switchblade!

This is wierd. I now have all the pieces back in with no additional noise when the M4 is in the GCX. The ONLY difference is that before, when I had the noise the config was:

Loop1: BB
Loop2: Whammy
Loop3: Nothing (Just jumping from 3 to 4)
Loop4: M4/Axe (A/B)

Now I don't have a gap in Loop3:

Loop1: BB
Loop2: Whammy
Loop3: M4/Axe (A/B)

Could the empty Loop 3 add nose even if it was always off?
