Got a few new gear acquisitions (again).
I picked up a couple "Squier Classic Vibe Teles" recently. The blue sparkle is a Mighty Mite body with a SCV neck, and the white one is a bit of a mystery right now - I'm not entirely sure it's a Squier body, as it isn't pine (at least I don't see it as that), and the finish isn't "see-thru" like the other SCV's. I did some "surgery" on them last night -- added the Little '59 in the bridge of the white one, and a Chopper T in the bridge of the blue one, along with Wilkinson compensated saddle bridges -- and the body just may be a USA or Mexi. Who knows? It sounds good, and that's what matters, right?
Anyway, got them all set up, and I'm on the fence about which pickup I prefer - the '59 is a bit more rich & articulate, but I've always liked the Chopper too. They each have their good points. The Classic Vibe necks are surprisingly good! The frets are dressed nicely, and while they could be just a tad bigger, they are certainly meaty enough. The neck pickups are chimey the way a Tele should be. Nice and quiet now too. The Wilkinson bridges are a great drop in upgrade too, and they're "ash tray" style with brass triple saddles - just the way a Tele should be!
The silver-ish looking one is a Fender FSR Player's Tele in "Blizzard Pearl", with Vintage Noiseless p'ups, and the 25dB mid-boost (ala Clapton). It came with a tortoise pick guard, but I hate tortoise - screams "country" to me - so the black one went on the day I got it. Very cool guitar. The fret ends are a bit sharp, but maybe that will get better when the weather warms up some.
I love Teles...
Anyway, group shot, along with the "post surgery" shots of the Squiers.
