Lynch solos are great, but it's not that LIVE. The vocals and solos were fixed and punched- in to death. Nevertheless, it's George in top form, with all his famous guitars, the Tiger, the Kamakaze...

Ugh. Weak guitar tone. The lack of sustain makes it almost unlistenable. He's fighting it.
Out of tune guitar on the first track.

I saw them live on Monsters of Rock and don't remember them sucking that bad. It was a long time ago And my perception has changed quite a bit.

They're not wearing well to me. Can't believe I dug them so much.

The albums were so much better.

I've watched this show during niteshifts @ work a couple of times and it always leaves me with mixed feelings. On the other hand it's great to see the band live in their prime, but on the other, were they really this "mediocre" live?

And I didn't know about the overdubs and punch-ins at all?!

this has been on youtube for over 5 years. glad you just now found it :D

I guess it sounds like Lynch has been fighting his guitars on most leads since the 80's then? This sounded gainier to me than the stuff of recent though. Def has that cut through going on.. wouldn't surprise me if this is the fabled Caswell 39#. Really thin sounding.

all i can say is ulak irvine meadows.
i don't know if the particular alchemy of coronas and bogota beak dust that night was extra bueno or what, but lynch didn't sound quacked out like this at all. he was listening to a ton of yngwie, nuno, and satch because it all came out that night i saw him, and the tone was insane!
but "the donald" will always sound like felix unger fighting off hay fever to me. macho like a ken doll.

having seen a bunch of live Dokken vids, I posted this one because it's actually one of their better ones, believe it or not. Part of it is because the overdub fixes made it more enjoyable to listen to, but yes, they are very inconsistent live, especially with Don's vocals and George's solos.

Dokken was always mediocre live. I saw them many times & every single time I left scratching my head as to how they could sound so good on album & so bad live.

I finally got a copy of Beast from the East BEFORE they did all the overdubs for the actual album & it was sad. They pretty much re-did everything on there for the actual release. So much so that it was no longer a live album.

+1.
speaking of "Beast From The East", we all know that it's been fixed to death, but I always love the bit on "Breaking The Chains", where George broke a string and there's a short gap of no guitar, I like how they intentionally left that in, just to led to to believe that it was actually live ;)

Holy cow that is some bad editing. Every actual live performance I have seen (video) I come to the same conclusion that even most half-assed cover bands ull off Dokken tunes better live than Dokken. To be fair, I have not watched any with the current Dokken line up.

Dokken is probably the worst big name live 80s metal band I've ever seen, & since I saw them about a half a dozen times back in the day, I can safely say they were consistently bad live, so it was an off night I caught.

The thing that always confused me was how bad George's tone & timing was live. He sounds great on album, especially his tone, but live, it sounded like he was plugged straight into the board through a fuzz pedal. Thin, fuzzy, no sustain etc.

I've seen his with Lynch Mob recently & he had a great tone & played so much better.

Well, one thing they got right on Beast from the east despite all the overdubs is that it still sounds like a badly recorded live album. I don´t know if it´s the mix or the mastering or what, but I seem to remember that the whole thing sounds distant and messy. Haven´t had it on in years and years, though, so I might be way off.

I had no idea they were that inconsistent or poor... always thought they just got old and George got sloppy... now it all makes sense why he blows in some current youtube live vids. From night to night you never know where his improvs will go.

Beast from the east is drenched in reverb and delay sounds like.

Loved those vids when I found that concert on YT.

George Lynch has always been one of my favorite players. I love his playing & tone on album. However, live, he's one of the most inconsistent players I've ever seen.

I've seen him live a dozen times since the 80s & he's never put on a REALLY good performance. His timing live is really poor & his chops are no where as good as on album, to the point that I think he punches in so much on album that it's really not a true showing of his real ability as a player.

I even saw him do a clinic a few years ago that was so bad that people were thinking he was joking around for the 1st song, but soon realized George probably hadn't touched a guitar in ages before the clinic. He played as if his hands were filled with lead. Just sloppy & wanky.

Someone just posted a White Lion show a few days ago & was super impressed as how good Vito was live.

If something is off with George's tone or playing....it's probably Don's fault....yeah...we'll just blame Don.....lol
