Great Look At Slash's Guitars

These GibsonTV things on peoples' collections are always good (check out the Rick Nielsen one too), but this new one featuring Slash's stuff is really cool. Great to see Gibson showing the Derrig LP up close with the others. Per usual, Slash seems like such a cool dude to talk guitars with.

I had to chuckle when he spent a few minutes talking about the Derrig and how it’s pretty much his prized Les Paul and nothing can beat it, while he’s talking to Mr. Play Authentic. Gibson had to have had a talk about this, “Fuck, we really don’t want him making a big deal out of it, but if we DON’T edit it, maybe we can get some cred back for being cool with it? How many times did Mark say ‘shit’? Enough for us to be cool? No? Ok, don’t edit it out.”

Yea I found that interesting too. In the beginning when he was showing the LP that took the Derrig's place, it seemed like Agnisi was rushing him past talking about the Derrig, but leaving in Slash's testimonial about it being THE Ultimate LesPaul for him was pretty surprising to see in a Gibson PR video.

Great watch and Slash is a class act but the oooohhh reaction when every case opened was starting to wear on me.

Great video, thanks for posting.

Of most coolness for me was seeing his original red Mockingbird. I have a Neal Moser (BC Rich) version of one of his early Mockingbirds (not the "SL" Model), down to the neck carve, maple body and non-fancy top, and Kahler Trem which was on there before the Floyd.

I had my replica built in the same shop, same jigs, etc as the Derrig/Slash burst. The shop is MusicWorks, and Jim Foote inherited all of Kris's tools, jigs, parts, wood, etc when Kris passed from cancer.

That's an awesome guitar with a great story to it! I'm sorry to hear about Chris Derrig passing away. Does Jim Foote build '59 replicas still?

I doubt he does. The one I (finally) got took 8 years and 3 months to put in my hands. I can't recommend waiting than long, no matter how good the fiddle is. Life is too short. (And no, mine isn't for sale and it is awesome...but...)
