Marshall dudes,Marshall TV 4x12 with greenbacks.
Can it do metal or not? I'm asking because my buddy
has one for sale and I want it.
Is it warm enough for metal etc
thanks

Peavey 5150 cabs are loaded with speakers modelled after greenbacks, if that helps?

I've never used GBs but I'd say not.

I had a framus cobra cab with 4 greenbacks and that was the best sounding cab I've ever played for metal
they tend to tame the excessive bass and smooth the top
both framus cobra and dual recto I had sounded much better through that cab than through mesa cabs
also had 2 x '77 55hz cone blackbacks in my 1960 and they did a great job

Some say the lowend can get loose when you push the speaker playing metal.
I'm also looking for a GB loaded cab, but I plan on running it with another cab of the same impedance to take some of the load off the GB's.

Yeah I could probably do the same thing.
This is going to be my "at home" cab. But
I record at home as well,so high volumes
would be rare. Unless my drummer comes
over.

Hey Jerry, long time no see   I used to have a Marshall 4x12 w/ greenbacks. They sounded good until I ran some volume through them, then they got a little loose and lost some definition. I switched them out for some V30s and never looked back. I don't know what speakers you generally use but it seemed like the GBs are warmer, smoother, and would sound better for leads than rhythm IMO.

GB's sound great for mid cut but as stated above fall apart a little when pushed with volume as stated above

I think you might like that cab then. GB's have a great tone at low-mid volume levels when playing metal. If you want to crank up your amp with a drummer or something, hook up another cab in parallel.

that depends a lot on the cabinet construction
with a nice frontloaded and regular sized cab, you can easily bury a 1960 with v30's live
I actually ended up accidentally burying the entire band with the greenbacks
and volumes were even right in front of the stage, so we didn't notice, but all our friends that were more than 15ft away from stage said that
but I agree greenbacks sound better for leads than rhythms
I wouldn't say the v30's do better rhythms anyway, they're just more in your face (than anything)

I use V-30s,and my Bogner has 2 greenies and 2 V30s
also I use the EV Black labels.
But I've never used 4 green backs.
