After a thread a a week or 2 back i went out and got some Grolsch beer bottles to try the strap lock trick. Now, has anyone ever used those parts from the bottles on your strap without using a washer? I just threw my strap on, and used the little red ring from the bottle to secure my strap on and it seems pretty tight, and yeah tight means good. :D I'm just not sure how well those red rings would on their own?

Over here it's pretty common to use them as strap locks. I have them on my two main gigging guitars, and they last pretty long.

Without a washer and just the round red part from the bottle? And the beer is pretty damm good as well, as long as it isn't skunked.

That's a tall order in my experience...Grolsch seems to skunk even easier than Heineken.

What's this straplock trick you speak of?

You can use the red rubber ring as straplock.

It's the stores fault really. If those green bottles are left in sunlight they'll skunk. I bought a few from a place near me and there's no hint of skunk, and I buy Heineken a lot and haven't had a skunked one in years. But out in bars it's pretty common to get one that smells like roadkill, happened a few times and I was able to get another beer, just let the bartender smell it.

i understand the "cool" factor of using a beer gasket, but i will stick with real hardware when locking my strap to my spendy gjuitar.

Yeah,I know "do a search".
But,anyone in the Cleveland area know where to buy Grolsch beer?
Been to 3 places, one had two 6 packs of reg bottle tops but none have the ceramic bottle topper.
HELP !

I Agree, I wouldn't take any chances. DiMarzio Cliplock $16 , Schaller's $16-$23 , Dunlop's $14-$16.
