I know it can switch between the different modes for presets/IA configurations. But does it have a song mode, preset mode and such? I'm trying to find out, as I am looking for a new midi controller and the Rocktron Midi Raider seems like a much better option.

You can build 200 presets in 20 banks of 10 presets each.Pretty easy to set it up to follow along with your set list, if that is what you are asking. It is also very easy to edit presets while you are playing, which gives you even more options.

Right now, I have a preset per song set up with my Axe Fx. Been working fine so far. But was looking at other midi boards and some of them mention a song mode...where you can program 'x' number of patches per song, and so many songs. The one that I saw said it could hold 15 presets per song, 50 songs.

So I could program my first song and if there are multiple sounds (clean chorusy, crunchy, lead sound) I can do 3 separate patches instead of having to try and program it all into one patch using multiple amps. I can program a patch per 'song sound' (1 patch for each - clean chorusy, cruncy, lead sound needed in each song, but the issue with that is that if its less than 4 presets, I'm not utilizing the space efficiently in my mind.

does any of this make sense? lol...

Yes but it's not called song mode... you just use the banks... the GCP can be setup to have 4 preset buttons along the bottom... and the rest are I/A switches... or it can be setup to have just a bunch of preset buttons... you can name each bank... so when you bank up and down, you can have each bank be a name of a song... then all the preset in that bank can be corresponding patches for that specific song...

...hope this helps...

That's fine as long as your setlist never changes. But it's a pain if you suddenly need to start remembering which bank to navigate to between songs.

IIRC the Rocktron All Access has a setlist mode where you can put groups of patches into various orders. I only had one for a couple of months though and I seem to remember it not being quite as intuitive as I was hoping.
