Hi, I use my GSP a lot in live situations (I play in 4 bands) and really like the sound of it, but you know us gear-heads, we covet gear like there's no tomorrow! So I was wondering if I find a cheap AxeFx 1 or an Ultra on eBAY would it be worth buying, or is the difference in tone between these units compared to the GSP (Which I think is great), not worth it?

As a curve ball, I've always been intrigued by the 2101 as well - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIGITECH-GSP- ... 43c59c5bf2

Thanks, guys!

night and day difference. the gsp1101 is a toy by comparison.

the eleven rack would also be a good step up for cheap.

the older digitech stuff didn't do so well direct to pa, and the battery needs to be replaced every so many years.....don't go there.

My brother has the GSP1101 and I had an Axe Fx for a while.
While the GSP is a great preamp/modeler it isn't even close to the Axe. There's a reason for the huge price difference.

Just from the research I have done on both units this past couple weeks I would say that the GSP1101 modeling = demos and messing around whereas the Axefx = professional equipment. Comparing the two is like comparing Bill Murray to Dane Cook.

I got the beta cab updater in my 1101 and downloaded some cabs from Rewirez... totally brought the tone to life.

I love the unit now.

Actually, I've just sold an Axe Standard to a friend of mine who was using a 1101. The difference, even with the first generation axe (latest FW), in terms of preamps and shear effect quality is unquestionable - night and day in the Axe's favor.

Only thing the GSP was better at was doing a whammy effect - but this could be subjective. It is a digitech however - they know their whammy :D

Now, it all depends on what you use it for. But it's definitely worth it.

I looked at ebay's completed listings and both were selling for around 1K.

I had a GSP1101 for a little bit. The effects weren't bad but the amp models couldn't even hold a candle to the POD 2.0 nevermind superior technology.

I really like the amp models on the GSP, pretty much every preset on it sounds awful so starting from scratch is a must, but after a lot a fiddling I've got some great clean/dist/effects patches going for live work, so just didn't want to change to another unit if I'm not going to notice the difference.

Thanks for all the input, guys, very handy!

I owned a GSP 1101, it sounded good but......no comparison to a good tube amp. That was my opinion in 2008. I now own a Kemper and there is no way the GSP 1101 can keep up with it or an Axe. There is a reason the GSP is $200 - $300 and used Axe Fx units start at $1,000.

I am not saying money = tone all the time but generally that is true. In each market there is the bottom dollar you need to spend for good tone and you need to be above that line or you will not be happy.

I would personally prefer a POD 2.0 over the GSP any day. I have had one since the month they came out and it has never done me wrong.

I used to have a POD 2.0 when they first came out and it was pretty good, but the effects weren't very good I didn't think and the amp models were all kind of 'gritty' sounding if that makes sense?!
