which one is best for price, tone options and versatility, lead and rhythm. heavy metal, death metal, classic metal. most options and tone abilities, i like more options than i can use, i always use 1 o 2 channels and 1 or 2 modes but having 4 or more otions is always a life saver

sorry bro, i got gas bad, and i need to find the cure for the amp fast before i go insane, and do something i wish i didn't do. like buy and sell till i am happy

You already know my vote. I bet the SE is great, but there is no way it is $2100 better than the Blackmore IMO.

I voted BM. That is the only one of the bunch I have played, but it can do everything you listed and more. That's not to say the other amps couldn't do it all too though. I believe it to be my "be all, end all" amp.

8)

unless you are going to use all the features of an SE I would go powerball or blackmore. I never played a blackmore so I can't can't comment, but I really like the powerball my friend had.

the Engl Blackmore was probably one of the best heads I've ever owned period...especially paired with an Engl Standard 4x12 cabinet. Truly an awesome combination....I might pick up another blackmore in the coming week ;) It was my bass player's favorite head too ;)

I liked it better than the powerball, fireball, and Savage SE.

 We could put it in a 5150 headshell!

the blue voodoo is crap, IMO, though I must add I didn't get to crank it. So i suppose it's possible it opens up/doesn't sound like cack at higher volumes.

anyway, if you have the cash, it's gotta be the SE.

if you don't, savage.

i haven't tried the blackmore, i assume it's worth a try too, seeing as how it's pretty good value, and several people here say it's their favourite engl.

The only blue voodoo I have ever played is the newer ones (not sure the watts hand writen front), and I didn't think it was that bad really. I wasn't what I was looking for tone wise but I wouldn't have called it crap. I have never played the older ones that get ragged on all the time though.

i'm sort of getting ot here.. but i did hear a rv last week and it wasn't that bad at all. i do think the guy had some mods done to it though because the last time he was using it it sounded a bit loose and seemed to lack some bottom end. this time around the bottom was there and it sounded tighter. i think jerryp can do mods on rv's and bv's that tightens them up and adds bottom end.
as far as the engl's? don't have much experience with them so i really can't comment.

^ ^ i don't know which version I played, I played it about a year ago, though it could obviously have been there a while.

of course, being 300 watts it is possible that I just plain had it too low, volume wise.

The 150 and 300's are completely different than the 120's...on the 300 I like the clean and highest gain channels..the 2nd channel I didn't dig very much. Being able to set the freq of teh treb control makes the amp IMO.
