Always talked about but I finally did it for myself. Squier with a unknown humbucker through 98 Xtc with a greenback cab versus 57 goldtop through a DSL 50 and greenback cab. If I had to choose for my only rig regardless of value, Id take the xtc / squier combo. The amp won in my experience.
 
Sounds like you are winning, bud. You find your sound, that's the way. Most of us find our sound every other week. I feel like I have found mine also, but let's give it a couple months and see if I whore myself out

Or could it be you have a magical sounding Squire that in reality sounds better than your Goldtop?

Spent half my life playing unplugged anyway.
Plus, no longer need an awesome tone that can hold up at gig levels.
Most less expensive amps you can get to sound pretty good at lower
volumes. The SS shit especially.
