I gotta get a new 20'+ for a show in a week. Started looking online and there are too many options for cables these days, most of them expensive and boasting lifetime guarantees. Who do you go with ProCo, Monster, PlanetWaves?

Mogami's all the way - no substitute. i love them.

i do use planet wave cables for effects - call me stupid but i can hear a difference big time. i prefer mogami's for everything else.

i buy in bulk and make my own mogami cables - $60 for 25' retail is rediculous when i can get 300' for $125. tone wise they are amazing, they are built well, have a low noise floor, and dont tangle as easily as other cables i have owned.

VERY good point!

Vovox. You might say overkill but I only have 2 cables (guitar to amp and head to cab) so I think it was worth every single penny to have one of the best instrument and speaker cable. I won't be replacing cables anytime soon :2thumbsup:

I have a mishmash of all kinds of cheap cables and several have failed after several years so thinking about getting Monster so I can just bring the broken ones back and grab new ones.

Mogami and Colossal Brooklyn. I prefer the Colossal .

Canare GS-6 for the electric guitar.
Canare GS-4 for everything in the rack
switchcraft silent jack at the guitar
neutrik cheapo silver jacks everywhere else

Live, acoustic = Whirlwind leader. No substitute for this live workhorse, plus, it NEVER tangles. This same cable has been going strong for 16 years of gigging. no joke.

BTW, Mogami is nice too, but I find the Canare accepts solder more easily, and the inner conductive jacket strips more easily.

I make my own with either Sommer 'Spirit' or Klotz 'La Grange' cable, and i use heavy duty Neutrik jacks.

For pedalboards/rack stuff, i prefer to use Sommer Session MKII cable as it's thinner in diameter and easier to deal with when you have tons of cables going into the back of a switcher. Still sounds as good as the 'Spirit' cable though.

I prefer the Switchcraft 226 and 280 type jacks for the rack/pedalboard stuff, they're much less bulkier than the Neutrik jacks.

-Custom made noise cancelling cables, Belden cable with Switchcraft Silencer jacks
-BRTB Canada Player Series (really nice and cheaper to buy than making the above)

LEEM Live/Crazy cables.
I'm also recently using Rock Cables by Warwick. Really thick and they help reduce some noise as well.

Anyone used cables with that metal armour?

I don't own any of the ones from that company 'Armoured Cables' but i have cables from other companies that have the metal armour around them. They seem extremely tough!!

Haven't gigged mine yet but will do in a few months!

Those look really cool as well Dan! What's the price range? I'm guessing they are special order only?

does anyone else not put their cable through their strap? that metal cable would tear some paint/wood off a guitar in a heartbeat i would think

Lava, Canare, Fulltone, Evidence Audio (I prefer the Melody for High Gain) from, you guessed it Lava Man. Off the shelf I'd probably by the heavy duty Live Wires, good cable (better than Monsters IMO) and have a great warranty.

I use the planet waves cables with the circuit breaker buttons, great for changing guitars quick. Probably not the best sounding cables out there, but they do the job for me :)

FWIW I tried George L's and they sounded better (awesome, actually), but were less reliable, I had problems with them shorting out if they got bumped which is a no-no. I'm an idiot and could never seem to put them together well, lol!
