I recently bought a 30 year old Jem on eBay. Surprsingly, it came with a fantastic heavy duty case that has a “Chandler Guitars” name plate. My original plan was to buy an actual Ibanez Jem case but I now want to keep this one. The problem is that the foam interior is breaking down causing tiny pieces of foam to get all over the guitar every time I take it out. Any ideas on how or where I can get a new foam interior or is there something I can treat the foam with to stop it from breaking down? I was also thinking of lining the foam with fabric and glue but I’m concerned that certain materials and adhesives could damage the guitar’s finish.
I realize there likely isn’t much I can do but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would try to find a fabric (plush) that looks passable for a plush interior guitar case and use 3M 77 spray adhesive to line the foam with fabric. But this a shoot from the hip type of suggestion

Yeah, I think this is the direction I was going to go. I’m just paranoid about the fabric. I once had a rag that was under a guitar in it’s case that transferred it’s dye onto the back of the maple neck.

if the foam is crumbling, the cloth covering will fall off unless u really saturate the foam which will make it hard. plus it is very difficult to line the recessesd portions of the foam.

i tried this before.

u can go to hobby store and buy some foam. case companies also sell pick apart foam. which u can pluck to shape

i just checked ebay.

you and buy three sheets of foam.

line the top and bottom.

middle foam layer you can cutout the shape of your guitar and you glue that shhet onto your bottom sheet. cheap fix that will still look good and not stink.
