Went to the local G.C. to get a preamp tube when I happened to spy a shipping box for a guitar just setting there empty,so I asked if I could take it.

Now,history from that place (and Sam Ash too) is that once they get in gear, they almost automatically flatten the boxes and send them out for trash pick up. I had been told in the past to either come back on certain days or,"go dumpster diving".

So,when I asked for the box, they had to go to the screen, make sure the guitar was sold, then run and ask a weekend manager and heres what he said...

buy it for $10.00.

I almost fell over laughing when they told me what he said.
By the way,I only went home with the preamp tube ...should have asked if they wanted the box back it came in...."for 10 bucks".

yes, they are f'heads.... some people.... thanks for the laugh!

You should send an email to corporate on this. How would they get that $10 in the till? They would'nt, they would put it in their pocket and that would be termination on the spot. Nothing can be done about it because its your word against his that he said that but it would get corporates attention!! ASSHOLES!!!

Well,I have gotten some tasty deals out of them in the past and usually they are ok to deal with since I been going there for 10 yrs,but this was just typical run of the mill bullcrap.

I was in there X-mas Eve afternoon(buying myself a gift..lol) when I happened to spy a used VHT Deliverance 120.
I didnt have the beast turned up past 9oclock when a snot nosed young sales guy comes and say..."hay mmmman, you gotta turn that down"...to which my reply was laughter...and that just pissed him off all the more to say.."I cant even hear my customer standing in front of my face".

This store in North OlmstedOhio used to have some real cool sales guys that would say...'come in close to closing and we'll crank up what ever you want".

Guess those days are long gone....phuckers.

I think I would have bought my preamp tube somewhere else.

That sounds super lame. The GC in Roseville, MN where I used to live has some great salesmen. They always hook me up with great deals, free or cheap service plans, and let me CRANK the amps loud! There is an "amp room" where you can check out gear at full volume () but even on the sales floor they'll let you turn it up pretty loud.

There is new guy there however who had just met me and then tried selling me a Boss noise suppressor for two weeks straight! He called me every other day saying he had a used one and would give me a good deal. Thing is, I never even said I was looking for one.

The going price for a guitar box is about $20
.... I can't believe you pasted up this great deal.

Did you ask about the extended warranty and return policy on the box ? ;)

Other than trying stuff out there, That place will never see 1 penny from me on anything..

I have a funny story about my local GC and guitar boxes. :aww:

I went in and asked about guitar boxes and they said they did not have any because they crush them up and recycle them.

I asked the sales person if he worked there full time and he said yes. I told him if he can set aside about 4 or 5 guitar boxes I will give him 20 dollars, all he has to do is call my cell phone number when they have them. This was when I was selling a lot of my guitars on Ebay so me not wasting hours of my time trying to find boxes was worth 20 dollars to me.

He said his manager is in charge of shipping and he will let him know. I told him again and wrote down my number on a piece of paper that said my name and $20 dollars for four guitar boxes. He said again that he will give it to his manager and I tried to explain to him that I want to give HIM 20 dollars for setting aside the boxes not the manager or anyone else.

He says alright I will post it up on the bulletin board so the manager can see it.

Of course I never got a call saying they had boxes so I guess the guy did not want 20 dollars for setting aside boxes they would throw out anyways.

I always deal with the same salesguy at my GC, he takes care of me and if I need a box I ask for one and if he has one he brings it up to me. No charge. I make sure when I buy anything there that I seek him out every time.

+1. I work with the same two guys from my old local GC in Minnesota. They're now managers at two different stores and they still hook me up and ship me stuff for free even though I'm two states over now in Michigan! Very cool when salesmen act like friends and not d-bags that follow you around the store and make you turn the volume down.

I have some boxes in my garage Johnny. Give me a holler if you need one brother

$10 for a box at GC? :jerkit:

I got sick of messing with this box crap long ago. 27 inch TV box at U-Haul will wrap around any amp or guitar and is thick as shit. never had an issue. Just get a razor knife and box tape and F those a-holes at GC.

you should try a local music store. They would rather give the boxes away then pay to throw them out. Plus if you get in good with the owners, maybe they would hook you up with some deals on strings & such...since the little guys are hurting bad...and would love to snag GCs business that they somehow always piss off in one way or another!!

That's the way to do it. But every couple years you have to cultivate a new relationship. It sucks.

i have multiple relationships at my preferred GC. manager, acc. guy, git guy and amp guy so if one disappears, i have a fallback plan. i spent a lot of money in that store last year and i always get taken care of. no other GC in town (of which there are 3 other locations within 25 miles) comes close to having the same staff and courteous treatment.

there are some GCs i HATE, and the vast majority of GC employees are loser fucking assholes, but a select few can and will care about you, your needs, your skill set and your budget. trouble is finding them.

GC is the last place on my list for buying anything. I hit all of the local independent shops first, and only if and when none of them have what I need will give GC a try. They are always asshole douche-bags...
