so.. I've been using the same 2 types of picks for years, Nylpro 1.4mm Jazz picks, and Dunlop 3.0mm "big stubby"

but saw a post today on facebook from the Jason Becker family that they are selling Jason Becker "Bleu Cheese" Swiss picks, have never used swiss picks but have heard good things. Ordered close as I could get to my liking, which was 1.3mm jazz picks.

Pretty excited about them, plus the cash goes to the Jason Becker special needs trust fund so that's cool.

Anyway, what picks do you all use?

Or do you even use picks?

I have been using the white tortex sharps for so long it's crazy. Never even considered changing. Total creature of habit. Guitars built a certain way, string gauge, setup,no pedals except a gate.....the only thing that I change up is the amp head once in a while.

I found from trial and error what I like, and that's what I use. At least I am consistent.

Mostly creature of habit here as well, I have tons of guitar picks I've collected, I try them out for a few minutes every now and then and just go right back to one of my 2 defaults.

Have a few friends that started using swiss picks and they brag about the durability (some very hard pickers, as I am as well) The picks that I have end up worn out pretty fast, especially after a string of playing live since I pretty much gorilla smash them against the strings during heavy riffs

Chickenpicks are my favorites now. Tried a lot, but these are so much better imho. They give me much more control.

Been alternating between the Hetfield .96 picks and a V Pick Snake for the last few years. Nothing else feels as good and I just basically gave up trying anything else.

Tortex sharps as well for 20+ years now. The 1.35 or the 1.15

HA!!!! The "pick thread" gets reborn once again.... Love it!!!!!!!

Here's what I've been using.... For many many many many years. Many.

I used the green tortex for years. Always wore them out fast, but that's what Dimebag always used. Once I found those red jazz III's I haven't used anything else.

Used the green Tortex for a LONG time then one of these threads caused me to try out the Hetfield picks. Love them and haven't used anything else since discovering them.

Those Jazz 3's are nice, I have a few of those and use to use them when I lost my picks all the time

Gold Ultex 1.0mm and Ultex Black Fang. 94mm.

Could never use the Jazz IIIs personally, too small. Especially since I choke up the pick A LOT in my hand and predominantly use the side of the pick's tip rather than the bottom point. Jazz IIIs just fall out of my hands too much.

They are small, but I dig how close my meat is to the strings for pinch harmonics and the like. I can do subtle muting, chicken-picking, chunky staccato, or wide open ringing... I dunno, I've got pretty big hands and long fingers and they do feel terribly small in my fingers, but they work perfectly well - as weird as that may seem. Used to use Dunlop nylon, Tortex, I liked the Ultex for a while but they got shaved down and almost razor sharp and polished - they'd slide off the string, no grip, interesting; D'Addario, Clayton, Dava, and a bunch of others from the 70s through to today. Even a couple metal picks.

Love my lil' red pick that could :D

Ultex Sharps, I used the same picks forever, then tried these and switched over on the spot. love them!

Jazz III Ultex 2 mm
Jazz III Tortex 1.5 mm
Jazz III Nylon Black

I've used red Jazz IIIs for years. I've tried so many different ones. The Kirk Hammet Jazz III feels really good as does the Bonamassa Jazz III. They are both very close the reds. The EJ Jazz III has different raised lettering and feels like a slightly different material. I will say that once broken in the EJs feel really good but at first they are harder for me to handle.

Picks sound different and you sort of get accustomed to a certain response.

Red Jazz III user for years as well. Did a ton of comparison between the standard reds and the EJs and it's amazing how different the EJs are both feel-wise and tonally. The EJs impart a livelier, snappier sound which I prefer over the standards. And you're absolutely correct, they much easier to handle when broken in a little.

I've been messing around with Dava reds lately. Took a little getting used to but they're similar to a Jazz III, slightly larger with a rubber grip which is super ideal for me personally. The only drawback is the tone is slightly duller to my ears than a typical Jazz III but not a complete deal-breaker.
