Guthrie Govan is absolutely immense

His physical skills and theory knowledge are nothing but amazing but his playing has left me cold lately... :(
 
I don't know what it is, but it seems like something just isn't "clicking" in those 2 vids. I'm not taking anything away from his playing ability, but something about it seems off - like it didn't flow smoothly :confused:

I'll probably get torn apart for this, but in those vids, I felt like he never "got in the groove", so to speak.
 
Immense? meh, he's probably only 135lbs soaking wet. :D

Well considering they’re one take improvisations while the pressure of being videoed with the expectations of him being the latest greatest thing, I’d say he did just fine.
 
I wasn't a fan until I heard the song Waves, which is amazing. I like his CD a lot.

Yeah thats right! He doesnt always play just Erotic Cakes stuff though, he normally plays much more Jazz Fusion stuff from his other group The Fellowship. Im not so much into the jazzy stuff he does with that band, they play every thursday at a bar about 15mins from my house. If they played Erotic Cakes stuff on those nights, id go down there to watch more often!!

They play from like 8 or 9pm til really late, its like a smokey old jazz bar haha! I spot him every now and then when im nearby his town (Chelmsford). You cant mistake him :D :lol: :LOL:

He used to give lessons, but when i asked him last year he said he doesnt do lessons anymore.. woulda been cool to get private lessons with him :doh:
 
The "backing track" stuff was written for magazines and lesson vids, right? For many years (maybe more than ten), he's been doing a lot of the lessons in guitar techniques magazine. His ability to cop other people's style is amazing. He had done a lot of eric johnson stuff and his version of Cliff's of Dover is very hard to pick out from the original. I would think that his years of giving lessons has played a major role in his skill level and versatility.
 
I absolutely love Erotic Cakes. haha Its amazing. Eric is my favorite song, especially the tapping things.
 
What's not clicking about those vids??? :confused: That's funny :lol: :LOL: That dude is freakin' badass! He picks clean and precise and his bends are perfect....I'm a huge fan :rock:
