My 101B arrived today, what an amp!

Quick Question: Can you switch between Old / New, Class AB / A with the amp ON and without changing impedance?

I know you have to half the impedance for the half power mode though, but wasn't sure on the above.

Thanks in advance

Nico,

Glad you like the amp. Long trip from Saudi to Argentina!

You can switch all that on the fly safely. And, you don't have to do anything when you put it in the half power mode regarding impedance. It corrects itself. Having the OT impedance manually only applies to amps without the feature where you have to pull tubes. Also, I find almost any Bogner sounds better with a 16ohm load, if your cab is 16. 8 ohm is just a little different. I find though at 4 ohm, most amps get really stiff. And, you will also find that at half power, you will mostly be imagining a reduction in power. For low or moderate volumes, you won't be able to tell a difference.

well, this is what the manual says:

To the left of the A/AB switch is the Output Power Half - Full switch. The function of this switch is to cut two powr tubes out of the circuit and knock the amp down to half the watts. This enables you to crank the amp up to redline, and only hurt your immediate neighbors, not the ones at the end of the block. When using the half power switch, reset the ohms switch to 1/2 the actual value of the cabinet. (A 16 ohm cab should be set to 8 ohms, an 8 ohm cab to 4, don't use a 4 ohm cab in half power).

@Nico - here you go......not sure if they have always been that way or not. Thanks for that heads-up. Must have had another brand on my brain.

On my H&K Triamp 2 they recommended to leave the speaker impedance unchanged. I contacted the customer service, and they said it's a "desired mismatch", to make the amp sound more vintage on 50W. They stated that the Triamp OT can handle it no problems.

AFAIK if you leave it on the 16Ohm setting on 1/2 Power, it should be Ok, as the actual load is higher, not lower. But not sure how much the XTC OT can take.

Thanks guys!!! much appreciated...
Steve, It was a long journey for sure according to DHL: Saudi, Bahrein, Germany, New York, Miami and finally Buenos Aires...
By the way Hunter I loved your XTC 100B clips on youtube.

Thanks Nico. Those clips have been done in 50W setting and matched to 1/2 the cab impedance. On the 100B it means pulling a fuse as it doesn't have the switch yet. I prefer the amp in 50W, full power is just too crazy loud :scared:
