So, I finally got my hands on a Hagen. First take, in all honestly, i wasn't impressed. Then i went back today and a/b'ed it against my herbie mk1, and in all honesty the herbie is a beast, but what I learned to like about the Hagen is it's versatility while still keeping Diezel tone!

I love the cleans, i feel i can get close to the herbie cleaning by putting gain low and volume high, but i get more crispy cleans with higher gain settings.

my main questions have to do with ch 2-4, especially 3 and 4.
some applications, i find the right tone with my gain at 2-3 o clock, channel volume around 11, treble 2, mid 10-11, bass 12 and master volume 10-11.....presence and deep around 12.....but at these levels, as soon as i stop playing the guitar, i get serious microphonics....any suggestions? i have a noise gate on my nova system and i'm sure someone would recommend some time of hush super c or isp decimator, but any tricks without having to use those?

thanks! and is it bad if i'm tempted to keep my herbie and hagen :-)

I had some microphonics issues with my Hagen as well. I replaced the pre amp tubes, with V1 being the most important. I still get the occasional radio station, but I solve this by keeping the guitar volume slightly cracked open -- never fully off.

12AX7AC5 HG+ 678 (this is the V1)

12AX7AC5 HG+ (V2)

12AX7AC5 HG (for V3-V6)

The ones with the + symbol are the high grade tubes for V1 and V2 and the 678 represents the special selection (low microphonics) V1 tube, hand selected for Diezel.

A Furman power conditioner helped as well.

It's curious, because my Herbert was whisper quiet. Love my Hagen, but I wish I could have kept my Herbert too.

Are these the ruby tubes similar to those recommended for the herbie? I bought a full set of preamp and power tubes for the herbie from jens kruse a while back and never installed them, hopefully they're the same ones!

Sorry, not sure if they are exactly the same as Herbert. Ruby tubes for sure. I got mine from Jens too.

It seems your master is either low or off? Am I seeing that correctly? Also do u have the kt77 or the el34? Also Reza, I have to ask if you're Persian? There's so few Persian rockers out there!

I've only had the chance to play for an hour. man, if i never played a herbert or an einstein, i'd have nothing i'd miss because the hagen is phenomenal. having played those others, i can't help but miss the crisp punchy cleans of herbie ch1 a little, and ch2+ of herbie and mega of einstein! i'm sure with time i'll learn to dial those in....

Thanks again for another great reason for me to sell gear for a diezel product! :-)

Thanks Cameron, I will look for these details.

Peter
